Diane, I don't know if imamess will see your question unless you tag her.
Well, I never tag anyone, so thank you for doing it for me! I use the microwave too, but I'm interested in how they come out in the crockpot. I did think about what the energy cost is to use a crockpot--I have no idea! 5 hours vs. 5 minutes has to be more expensive--I'd just like to see how they taste from the crockpot.

I put two small sweet potatoes in the little crockpot and they were ready when I came in from the farm. How long did you bake them, Ima, and was it on high? And did you wrap them in foil or just put them dry into the crockpot? Did you pierce them with a fork, or is that not necessary in the crockpot? Oddly enough, when I went to the grocery store the other day they had sweet potatoes on sale so I bought two small ones, and they're waiting to be cooked. Diane Diane, sorry I didn't reply yesterday. I went to see dd and dgd, left their house to go to farm then stopped at Egg Lady's house. I was tired. Anyway on to the potatoes. I took a very small pat of margarine and greased the inside of the crock pot, also rubbed a little margarine on each sweet potato, put both of then in the crock pot and added about 4 or 5 ounces of water. I turned it on high and it was done in two hours. I did not pierce them with a fork until I tested them after the two hours was up. I don't know how to tag or how to look to see if I was tagged. I just usually read every thread that has had a new post morning and night except the Listzilla ones and some of the By=ways.

imamess..actually - I do use my smaller one and my larger one.......depending on what I am cooking and who will be home. what size is the one that you put the two small sweetpotatoes in? the smaller dip size one? I have the original size round (3? 3&1/2? qt?) I got it in 1986 and is the brown one. The little crockpot that I have is maybe a quart or quart and a half, probably what you would use for dips. The original brown one that I had finally decided not to heat after about 15 years and I was given one a little larger for Christmas a year or so after that.

I went to the fabric store yesterday and purchased 16 zippers and 4 spools of thread to use some of the hoard of fabric that I have. I also bought dd 3 skeins of yard and a hidden zipper to repair a dress that she loves. The zippers and thread were on a 40% off sale plus I got a 25% senior discount on the total. I had waited for weeks for that particular sale and senior day. The store was full of gray haired ladies and there were no buggies available to contain dgd. She 'helped' by carrying a skein of yard to the checkout and the other ladies and a couple of men in the store were quite amused by her. She has not learned the concept of waiting her turn yet and we tried hard to amuse and distract her while standing in line.

imamess I have a small pile of fabric in the LR that I am struggling with. I bought it to make shorts or something for the boys when they were little. In the late 80's or very early 90's. It is pretty "graffiti" looking and has some neon in it. I am thinking I should donate but I know this stuff keeps coming around and back in style. Do you wnt my fabric? How old is the age required for the fabric store. Senior Discount in some stores is as low as 55..... I would like to have my sewing room by the spring.....

dtesposito...I think the crockpot draws less energy. I think Microwaves use higher amounts but for shorter times. It would be interesting to see a comparison.

I was just reading some reviews on the casserole crockpot dish. it states they get super hot on the outside...one lady said it cracked her Corian countertop. People are aslo reporting that it does not cook the food very evenly or as efficiently.
So I decided to take mine back. It only takes up to an hour to cook a casserole in the oven. And my other crockpots are more than adequate to get me through.

$21 for a new set of cords & AC adapter for my laptop. The first set shipped by the eBay seller was defective and missing one of its parts. I was worried that there might be trouble getting him to send a replacement without my having to send back the defective set and pay the additional shipping cost myself. But no need to worry or send it back... the new set arrived yesterday, perfect this time. Whew!

How funny, I have two small sweet potatoes to cook too! How hilarious imamess and @dtesposto. lucie, glad you treated yourself to such a nice wallet. You will likely enjoy that for years to come. papermoon, glad the cord order was so drama-free. Isn't it nice when people make good on what they are selling? I think e-bay, with the whole buyer review process, is one of the better places to buy goods. Vendors are super careful to protect their reputation.

The Senior Discount at the fabric store is 55, but yesterday from age 55 to 59 only got a 15% discount and 60 & older got 25%.

Purchases today were all consumable, beet pulp and oats for the mare, gas in the truck and groceries. I spent a little more than I meant to last month, so I've gone back to the envelope method. That is the only thing that will keep me on track. I've been following another site that has a very lively thread about how to feed yourself with $20.00 per week and you have nothing in the pantry, fridge or freezer to start with. I did make some notes this afternoon at the grocery store and I will think about this. I rarely spend more than that, but I have a freezer full of meat and a lot of canned vegetables from my garden. I also have plenty of staples on hand. DD feeds her family of three for $50.00 per week or less plus sometimes I'm there for lunch or dinner, but like me, she already has a stocked pantry. We talked a little about this on the phone tonight.

imamess: Even though I don't aspire to do so myself, I'd enjoy reading at the site that has the thread about feeding oneself for $20.00 a week.
Some years ago, one of the women's magazines ran a story about a woman who was feeding her family of 4 on $16.00 a week. She had a cat that she was feeding, too. She asserted that she would NOT increase their food budget--no matter what!!
Given that her two children were not yet teenagers at the time that she was writing, I've often wondered if they've since starved to death . . .
