puppybox, it is actually quality tea, interesting books and audiobooks. I do not say those are of any great quality - I prefer books with happy endings and those rarely happen in "good quality books".

I so agree. I used to be a bit of a literary snob but then I realised "good" books are extremely depressing.

I got a new handbag I needed (to go with a dress) at a very nice price Yes, "good" books are usually very depressing and who needs that? Deffinitely not me.

It's garage sale season... I'm having fun... trying to stay reasonable.
I'm very enamoured with buying paintings. I should actually hang some up.
I'm not sure what is ok for me to buy and what isn't. I have such conflicting values.
I think it was good to resist the antique teddy that might have had resale value. It was a bit cigarette smokey. probably air out-able but I probably should not gamble since I am way behind in selling thngs.

This week, I've bought three new summer tops--new, but all on sale, because places like Goodwill very rarely have anything in my size--since several of the tops in my closet need to be demoted to grungework-only. I also bought a more-expensive-than-usual ebook, which should get me through the doctors' visits that DH has coming up.

I attended a book swap on Saturday and this year I brought home just one book for me to keep and two which I will use as presents. Qiute unvelivable, since I brought two bags full last year. And got another book for free at my library on Monday.

I can't believe how good I've been. The only frivolous stuff I've spent money on in the past few weeks is buying a little bit of virtual currency for an online game I play at night when my daughter's in bed and my writing is done for the day so I could get some goodies for my character. I asked first too, so it was thought through and not on impulse. My husband and I worked out a deal that I'd always ask him before I buy anything, which sounds antifeminist on the surface but I have a problem and he's trying to help me with it. Using him as a filter for my spending has helped slow me down a lot. To make it even he also asks me before he buys anything extra for himself (most of the time, more on that later in the post) and we make decisions on what to buy our daughter together. This way we're on the same page with our finances and it's worked well. We're even slowly reducing the balances on our cards rather than staying at the same balance. I know this is an acquisitions thread primarily but also wanted to bring up that we've decided we can live without cable. We only have it for our daughter's cartoons and Game of Thrones. I can live without Game of Thrones for a while until I find another (legal )way to watch it. For our daughter's cartoons we can continue her DVD collection, maybe using new DVDs to further influence her improving behavior. Like, go a few weeks without a tantrum or apologize for the ones she does have after calming down (because no one's perfect; especially emotionally developing small children) and get a new movie or few episodes of a favorite TV show. We also have Netflix (which has plenty of decent cartoons our daughter loves) and I have Amazon Prime, plus there's also Youtube for some stuff that me and her can cuddle up and watch on my laptop (she loves the videos of people playing video games), so I see no need for cable anymore. It's already expensive and in July we lose the introductory rates and will have to pay more, yuck. Other than virtual stuff the only new acquirement is a microphone headset so I can voice chat with some online friends. It was actually a surprise. I told him I'd like to voice with some people online at some point and woke up the next morning to a brand new headset on my computer desk. While I wish he had asked me first before just stopping at the store and getting it, oh well. It was a nice gesture. He might have also interpreted my "Hey, at some point I'd like..." for "Whenever you want to, get this for me."

Today I bought a new coverlet for my bed, since the one that is on it this month (I change and wash them monthly) is starting to look ratty, and I found one I liked on sale at about half price. I also bought three sets of cotton 300 thread count pillow cases, also about half price. Apparently The Thing That Lives in the Floor eats pillowcases, since I'm pretty sure we had more white ones not long ago. And I bought a kindle edition of an Agatha Christie mystery, which still leaves me with a few bucks to spend on Kindle books later in the month. Not a bad haul for less than $100 US, for things we're going to use a lot.

I hit a garage sale for the first time in yrs a few weeks ago. I paid $20 for a nice well made thick Guatemalan hand woven rug. Well it's not actually a rug but some kind of big flat square bag. Didn't really know what I was going to do with it but it finally found a home for it right at the entry. I,ve never had a rug there, I dunno why. It's doing a great job catching dirt etc that the dogs and I track in the house so it was definitely a good buy, needed, and looks nice. On the other hand, the embroideried shirt I got for $5 is the donation pile already. Maybe I wasn't wearing my glasses when I bought it, or maybe I damaged it in the washer, but the neckline is frayed.
I don't garage sale often...I'm either working or too tired to be out and about on weekend mornings. However my last couch was an amnesty item, so I'm without anything to sit on now in the living room, so I might hit some moving sales this summer to see of I can find one.

My new tops arrived yesterday, and I liked them so much that I went back and bought two more--still on sale. I also bought wrist splints to wear at night for incipient carpal tunnel problems, because I'm getting numb, tingly fingers. Not good for a person who spends a lot of time on a computer, who is also a hand quilter.

I'm bumping this thread. I think it would be good for me to be accountable for acquisitions.

Thank you, dayeanu I just thought I need to find it. I bought a scooter today - I realised I am not likely to use my bicycle in town (not really bike friendly here), but the scooter is collapsable, so I can get into public tranport with it when needed. I also spent some more moey on a good quality tea.

I bought a dozen yellow roses last night as my reward for getting through a rough patch with the bank and the tax board. They're beautiful.

I bought pizza. I spent the afternoon driving mother around to do errands, including grocery shopping. I did NOT want to cook tonight. And did not want the salmon salad I made earlier. The salmon will suffice for lunch tomorrow. Tonight Mother and I had pizza.
