@vyaspigeon -- I already don't drink sweet beverages so nothing to cut there. Fortunately i dislike sodas. I have a very hard time resisting desserts and ice cream though. I need to cut back on the amount of fruit I eat as well. It is so easy to succumb to a carb craving by overdoing fresh or dried fruit -- resulting in a blood sugar spike.

I worked on the junk pile....starting at one end. The only things in it that I am keeping are some clay flower pots and plant stands. There are some old wooden gates that I kept forever for a friend who wanted to use them for a pattern, but they are rotten now...so will burn those. I got those gates back in 1980! I had them in my barn and then moved them here. Crazy!

My goal for this week: Continue to tidy coffee table & kitchen PLUS sweep the floors every other day and dust once a week.
Sunday: kitchen table tidy, coffee table needs a couple of things put away, LR floor swept. Dusting will wait till Fence Guy installs second dead bolt.

Had yogurt with a little fruit while everyone else had ice cream and cookies for dessert.Bobolink, I commend your willpower. I, on the other hand, bought a half-price bag of Christmas chocolate candy a couple of days ago, not the best way to start the year if I want to cut down on sugar. Ellen, you tended those gates for 35 years! That should make us all think about the stuff we have saved for "someday". Flotsam, I hope we can all keep up enthusiasm for this thread, and if we can't, the beauty is we can always come back later on, since the goal is only for one week. I will try for my 3 bottles of water a day this week, and will report back on Saturday to say how many days I succeeded. This is a modest goal, since I used to drink more than 3, so I'm starting out easy. Diane

dtesposito, I'm starting out easy too. Today is my first week drinking 2 bottles (48 oz.) of water a day.

1rarebeautifuldove, I had no idea drinking water would be so effective. Definitely going make an effort, though it's quite hard for some reason to keep it up. I think it's because I don't like the idea of having to run to the loo all the time, . dtesposito, the funny thing is, if anybody from this site turned up on my doorstep for dinner, I would welcome them in with open arms. Any real life friends, I would hide behind the curtains until they went away. Sad, but true. So last night's spinach omelette was a success, and it also contained onions, mushrooms and lots and lots of herbs. Tonight I made a vegetarian sausage casserole and cheated, using a bag of frozen casserole vegetables, with cheesy mash. It went down well with the kids I never use a recipe book, and I figure if you throw enough herbs, garlic or gravy at a meal, it will normally taste delicious. When I try following a recipe, I normally end up with a charred inedible mess in the bottom of the oven!

My focus for this week will be completing all the laundry I'm behind on.
I carry a 16oz water bottle with me everywhere, in the car, at my desk, in my reading chair, out with my friends, at the gym. It's just always there. And, fortunately, I love water; I'm happy with tap water.
Catherina, I'm adding spinach omelets to my food list. I had forgotten how good they are.

I wasn't sure if I should post here or the new habit. So I posted in the new habit one - that I am trying to tighten up my evening routine.]
On this thread - I am going to commit to drinking more water. And bringing my lunch to work.
Maybe between the two threads one will work.

Danny, I'm drinking 3 small bottles, so my 3 are less than 1 of yours! My end goal for winter water drinking is 4 pints a day.
Catherina, when I was drinking the amount of water that I want to drink, I can't say I had all of the wonderful benefits that Vyaspigeon had, but I definitely felt better generally. Plus, I have 3 medical conditions (or possible conditions) that benefit from adequate hydration--I have chronic sinus problems, I have chronic dry eyes, and I think I had a kidney stone a couple of years ago, although I never confirmed it. So healthwise it's important--but I also just generally feel better when I'm drinking enough. Unfortunately, I also have a weak bladder, so yes--when I'm drinking enough I have to pay attention to whether I'll have a bathroom available throughout the day.
It's really not hard to drink enough, like Eatingbonbons, I love water--it's just a habit thing--I have to care enough to remember to put the water bottle out where I can see it. I hope doing this as an actual challenge for a week gets me back into the habit, this particular habit is not a hard one for me.
Ohblondie, you can use both threads for the same challenge--if you want to have a routine down after a month, you can choose the most important few things and work on them the first week! Then add a couple of items the next week. Sort of ease into your routine.
Diane

I think I will continue with last week's challenge -- no sugar. I only met my goal one day last week. But dsil gave away the last of the Christmas baking and the ice cream, so it will be easier this week.

The gates were so unique that I hated to throw them away....so I was thrilled when my friend wanted them to use as a pattern...she makes things and sells them. However, that was at least six years ago. They are probably so rotten now that you wouldn't be able to load them. They were huge, fancy wooden gates like would go in a wall that surrounded the back of a house. I haven't gotten to them yet, but I am "working that way". (BTW the gates came from an estate sale that I attended in Galveston in 1980 where I bought the remaining fixtures and stuff after the sale. I remember how hard I worked to remove all that stuff....and I was 8 mo. pregnant at the time too.)

I'm trying to add drinking water as well. Even if I don't feel the benefits as much as 1rarebeautifuldove, it has to have some good effect. Yesterday I drank just over 2 litres, as well as several cups of coffee. I'm not sure how this corresponds to your ounces though. I have fluid ounces in my measuring jug, is that the same thing? Yay for no sugar bobolink. That's fantastic. I cheated last night on the vegetables, and made pizza and garlic bread..nothing green in sight. The weather was just too awful to walk a two mile round trip to town, and I forgot I had a punnet of mushrooms and a bag of sweetcorn in the freezer, which would have gone nicely on top of the pizza . I'm not going to make any excuses today, and planning a korma for tonight. I usually squeeze in about 3kg of veg, and a bag of vegetarian chicken into this, for six of us, which should just about cover our five - a - day in one meal. The kids all have salad in their lunchboxes, and I've got the leftovers of the other nights casserole for my lunch, so veggie wise, I think I'm back on track. I worked out that I need to buy 24 kilos of veg a week, for us all to have our minimum amount recommended by the NHS. Recently, I've been getting less than half of that.
