Good Morning Itsybitsy. Hope your boys get lots of salmon. How lucky you all are to have that possibility. Done: -more boxes moved to area of less visibility -wiped off newly cleared coffee table. -gathered more recycling ToDo: -remove cobwebs -straighten large rug -sweep everything that doesn't move. Unfortunately I have to be gone for 2-3 hours because I am really motivated, but when I get back...

Done: One load of laundry - washed and hung up to dry One load of washing up (but have filled the sink with another lot already) Washed, sorted and used recently gathered crab-apples (one lot macerating in sugar to be turned into a shrub, and one lot simmered in water to be turned into crab-apple jelly) Hard-boiled some eggs to take to work this week Cooked and ate some tea Put away yesterday's grocery shopping Bought a few things I need on Amazon Emptied remnants of last week's lunch (tea) boxes and put them in sink to be washed Put bag of compost and rubbish out
To do: Have a shower Put away cooking things/leftovers Put tea things in sink ready to be washed (current draining board load won't be dry until tomorrow given how cold it is, so no more washing up for me today) Pack food to take to work tomorrow
Sorry, not the shortest list, but that represents everything I have done/hope to do today. It's coming up on 10pm here, and I forgot to log things as I did them.

Done: -more sweeping -moved a couple rugs for cleaning -moved the light couch to clean under and straighten rugs -vacuumed the rugs -did some cob-webbing [Spider Wars - there is a disturbance in the force...)
Time for a small break. It seems the more I do, the more I see to do. It all needs doing, and there is no alternative however, so on I will go.

'Aint that the truth, BetsyMarie the more we do, the more we see. However, I also see progress and pride in a home that is starting to emerge underneath the accumulated clutter. Fly Lady is right about one thing, "you can't clean clutter." It takes far less time when I don't have to move things back and forth. I feel shamed and embarrassed to admit that I have only embarked on a true cleaning effort (not talking about maintenance of dishes and laundry), but an all-out let's 1) dust, then 2) vacuum, then 3) swish and swipe, then 4) mop and dry, less than a dozen times in 30 years. It's not something I'm proud of, but there it is. What is wrong with me? I am very resistant to my DH's suggestion of having hired help/housekeeping. It is something that I can/should be able to do on my own. Stubborn, but determined to learn new routines.

It's not something I'm proud of, but there it is. What is wrong with me? I am very resistant to my DH's suggestion of having hired help/housekeeping. It is something that I can/should be able to do on my own. Stubborn, but determined to learn new routines. What you say about not being able to clean clutter is so true. I spent the morning getting ready for a workman, and it took me twice as long to vacuum (for example) because I had to move stuff that shouldn't be there. That's why my primary thrust is to get rid of as much non essential stuff as possible.
I also did not learn that regular cleaning was necessary, much less how to do it. There is nothing wrong with you, by the way. Nor is there anything wrong with me. We just didn't learn certain things. As for a housekeeper, I'd love to have one. Yes, I 'should' be able to do it myself. I just don't want to. Besides, I'd have to clean the house before I'd let anyone in to clean it.
This morning I worked like a dog from 6 am till 10 (too much to list), which was the start of the 2 hr time window he was supposed to get here. He got here 90 minutes later, which was fine. I was able to sit, relax and have hot tea. And now he's gone.
The house looks relatively nice.. well, much better than before. Not party ready, but OK enough to not be totally embarrassed. I still have stacks of stuff, but I look more like a regular 'messy' than the hoarder that I am.
I don't plan to do too much this afternoon, except take out the trash and recycling. And enjoy my less cluttered house.

Good going, BetsyMarie, don't you love it when you have extra time when on a roll? Congrats on bearing down and getting done what you needed to do. I agree, take a moment to really see what was accomplished, perhaps take a picture to help remind you that it is possible?! I have been working in threes today and put time of actual work versus my exaggerated estimate of what it will take. It is so much easier when the paths are clear.
