I've been busy tidying up. I got more done than I have in a while, There is much more to do I also ran the dishwasher
I'm going to go out for a quick walk. How long the walk is depends on how the temperature feels. There are snow flurries out there now. Then more tidying up...

Congratulations on all those before-work ta-das, Mouseanne.
Way to go on the straightening, throwing away, and dishes, Wind.
Ta Da: --Living Room table straightened up --letter ready to mail --part of laundry load into dryer. Have to rewash the rest. I KNOW that putting lots of laundry into the washer and choosing the Super setting never works--some of the laundry always comes out with lint all over it--and yet I persist in trying it.
To Do: --bathroom swipe --dry the rest of the laundry --?

Good morning all. It's been nice having a few days that I do not have to go to work and be on break between classes! It makes me think about taking a semester off... but I do want to get done with this degree. I have procrastinated far too many times!
ta-da's: Ate breakfast Have been cleaning on and around the couch, which was piled with lots of stuff Started a load of laundry
to-do: More work around the couch/sofa, I am hoping that I can expand that area free of clutter Vacuum couch cushions, and under them, and maybe under/behind couch as well. Fold and put away back-log of laundry Lots more

You've all accomplished so much, I'm envious. I have round 3 of cold and flu season. I was so glad my voice returned yesterday, but woke up with what we call "a cold in the eye". Speaking of which, what does "manky" mean, Minerva?
TO DO Pick up mail and medicine Laundry Put away dry dishes
Being sick these past weeks has really made me hate clutter, clothes that don't fit perfectly (like tad-too-big jeans), and food. Ironic that I can't do much!

missjean, "manky" means something is a bit mucky or grubby. It's a bit worse than grotty but not as bad as minging. One of my ferments has developed a slightly scummy surface. I tried skimming it off earlier in the week, but the film just breaks apart. I'm sure the veg under the water line is fine as it's in an acidic environment (because of the good bacteria) but I'm thinking I may need to replace the brine to save it now. yrwelcome, I hadn't lacto-fermented anything until my first batch of sauerkraut a few weeks ago. Now I have seven different ferments going! If you want to try something else, I highly recommend sauercarrot. I made it by grating carrots and adding salt (I think I did two tablespoons of flaky salt to 900g carrots) then packing into a jar with a weight once it had released enough brine (no massaging unlike some sauerkraut recipes). It's a week later and the flavour is amazing already - it's tangy like sauerkraut but with an underlying sweetness. There seems to have been a lot getting done by people here. I, on the other hand, have had a lovely afternoon nap (um, more of a sleep really) and am unlikely to achieve very much during what remains of the day (it's half seven now). I do want to use some of my gathered wild garlic. I'm thinking a one pot pasta with the garlic leaves wilted in at the end...

Minerva, Wow, you are more adventuresome than I am. I did make my own yogurt for a while, and have played around with sourdough, but haven't ventured into other fermented products. You are also teaching me some new words. ta-da's: I've been doing laundry, and cleaning up squalor for a few hours with only short breaks. I have filled a medium sized box with paper for recycling, and have filled a bag with trash. If I could do this every day off, my house would eventually be clean. Grossest find of the day, an empty soup can filled with pieces of yarn and shredded napkins/paper towels, obviously some type of mouse house. I wonder how long it's been there? Probably several years.

Fermentation seems to be all the rage these days. I'm working on a "no fail" sauerkraut that I suspect actually is. I got it started on Tuesday and have yet to see any activity from it.
Ally, have you ever made sourdough bread using wild yeast? I did years ago and it was fun (I felt sort of like a mad scientist!) but I have to admit that it didn't work as well as purchasing starter.
