I have off from work today due to the weather. Most of the patients I see at the hospital are out-patients, so I called them yesterday to see if they could come in a day early (yesterday late afternoon) or reschedule for a time next week. I stayed late at work yesterday and squeezed a few patients in, and the rest rescheduled. We got about 8 inches of snow overnight, but for the past few hours it has been sleeting, and now there are a couple of inches of sleet on top of the snow. That is going to be some HEAVY snow to shovel!
I have not been working as steadily as I should have today. I slept in, which I think was a good thing. I've been tired lately. I've also spent some time looking at facebook posts and checking in on some different websites and webcams I follow.
ta-da: Up Made and ate a healthy breakfast Emptied the dishwasher
to-do: Start a load of laundry Load up the dishwasher with stuff from the sink Water the houseplants
Later: Work on taxes, between today and tomorrow I should be able to finish them, I would think. After the sleet stops I plan to go out and shovel. If it were snow, I'd go out now, but I don't want sleet to land directly on the cleared surface, It would likely form an icy crust right on the ground. I'd like that crust to have some fluffy snow under it. Sort though more papers, Fold backlog of laundry that has been washed More cleaning up. I just started a history class last week, and I would have liked to be able to work on assignments this week, but it is officially spring break, and our professor didn't give us anything that we can work ahead on, although it might be helpful for me to review that time period of American history. (Next week we will cover the time between the revolutionary war and the civil war).

@ally, sometimes you just need a quiet day, especially when a day off work appears unexpectedly, and even more so when there's snow. If you don't get as much done today as you wanted to, just think of it as a day spent tidying your mental cobwebs :-)
Done: Continued clearing stuff on bed (didn't feel like all that much when I piled it on there!) Hung up second load of laundry Put a third load of laundry on
Organised toiletries (for a decidedly non-girly woman, I seem to have accumulated an awful lot) - threw a couple of things away, recycled boxes that none of it needs to be stored in, and put a couple of things that have never really been used in the bathroom for use as shaving cream Sorted all my hair stuff (grips, ties, etc.) into a sponge bag Put little chest of drawers and organised toiletries back in toilet
Hung a picture on the toilet door (only taken me about seventeen months)
To Do: Hang third load of laundry Finish clearing bed Try to remember where my clean sheets are (not a disaster if I can't find them, I have clean sheets drying from my laundry today)

It sleeted most of the morning, now switched back to snow. I plan to go out for a second round of shoveling soon.
ta-da's: Completed one load of laundry Put dirty dishes in the dishwasher Ate some lunch, Spent about 20 minutes shoveling very heavy snow.
to-do: Start another load of laundry Go out and shovel some more, It will probably be about at least and hour to an hour and a half to get my car shoveled out, and I do it in about 20 minute increments. Continue onward...

I've been plugging away at the snow shoveling. My neighbor came by with the plow and cleared the section closest to the road, which is the hardest part to clear! I went out to the chicken coop and got an egg. The girls do not like to be "cooped-in" but won't go out in the snow. I also did a bit more laundry to-do: Continue with laundry Make at least one more trip out to do snow removal (I might make a path from the house to the car if I fee ambitious, but it is a long way and the snow is soooo heavy.) Taxes? Water houseplants? Sort papers? Scrub toilets?

Done: Got up Brushed teeth with the electric toothbrush that I rediscovered when cleaning my bedroom yesterday Opened dining room and bedroom curtains
To Do: Mow lawn (was just heading out to do it and my neighbour has gone out to hang laundry - any time I see him in person, he scurries back inside as quick as he can, so I will wait until he is finished before I go out. Clear living room - I haven't massively resqualored it since my last clear-out in January, so I'm hoping to get it done pretty quick Take down and wash living room curtains (still covered in cat hair from a previous owner and I have never had the motivation to tackle them - not to mention this room is usually too messy for me to want to be curtain-less - but today may be the day)

Done: Cleared living room and vacuumed floor Took curtains down Vacuumed as much cat hair from curtains as I could
Put first curtain in washing machine (supposed to be dry-clean only, but they clearly belonged to a previous owner and not my landlord, so I can always buy new ones if they get ruined) Spent some time researching net curtain attachments for a bay window - it's so wonderfully light in here with the curtains taken down but I don't like being so exposed (I'm on a road with quite a lot of people passing and my neighbours across the way can see straight in)
To Do: Wipe down windowsill Hang curtain Wash other curtain

Done: Hung curtain (no obvious ill-effects from being washed) Put other curtain in to wash Mowed lawn which isn't huge, but it ended up being a difficult and lengthy job (1. Had forgotten how to start mower, took a bit to work it out 2. Lawn was very overgrown due to neglect last year so it was very hard-going 3. There was a lot of moss which kept clogging up the blades 4. My neighbours have their laundry out to dry and I was trying hard not to spray grass debris in their direction). The lawn looks a bit of a mess and all the edges need doing properly, but it should be so much easier when I do it again in a couple of weeks.
Had an ice-cream lolly to reward myself for the mowing Rehydrated the dehydrated compost I bought Gathered some pots and seeds I bought - planted coriander, sunflowers, mixed leaf salad and some sweet peas
It's really lovely outside - it was so nice just to be out in the sun (sorry about the snow, but it's clear blue skies in Britain for once). Sitting in my living room now and it's so nice without the curtains. I know I'll want them up again when it gets dark outside, but they don't move properly on the curtain track - they just fall down - so I end up having them closed all the time. I did look into buying a proper curtain rail when I first moved in, but they are so expensive for bay windows. I would do it if I owned the house, but not for somewhere I am renting. I'm actually thinking about walking into town right now and seeing if I can buy something to put nets up with.

Before work TaDa! Gah. USA March 15-the date by which you must utilize prior year health $ spent or lose it. (FLEX) Went through my purse for receipts. Filed two claims, 2016 & 2017. Will get all my $ (previously deducted pre-tax from my wages) back. I think I lost $68 in 2015. Not earth shattering. But, I had $340 unclaimed for 2016. WAY too much to lose. Done! Not normally a big deal, but it is smack dab in the middle of tax season-so busy at work!!! I get extra points for the purse clean out. Pile of shredding. umm, yes, those were paid bills from 2015...(been carrying around a FILECABINET!!!) Pile of recycling. Pile of Trash. (small) Pile of filing/misc/other. filed am/pm week's med boxes 2 habits checked off

Done: Went into town (and then past town) on a net curtain search Bought curtain rails and (my third choice) length of voile Picked up missed parcel on the way
Walked home and sat and hemmed both ends of the voile (I am not much of a sewer and was hand-stitching very slippery fabric so it took a long time) Attempted to hang voile using rods and some self-adhesive hooks, but hooks repeatedly falling off apart from the one that I accidentally put on upside down which isn't shifting for anything. Have given up for now as it is 9pm and dark outside, so anyone passing can see me hanging in the window trying to sort it out. Rehung horrid dark curtains - thankfully a little less cat-hairy than they were before vacuuming and washing.
Feeling like I wasted my whole afternoon now. Stupid voile.
To Do: Nothing. I am finished off.

Minerva, I'm sorry that you had a frustrating afternoon/evening. Today is usually my day off, but I was supposed to go in yesterday for a demo of some new equipment, so I went in today, because the guys from the company were leaving this afternoon. This morning ta-da's: Showered, cooked and ate a healthy breakfast Went out and tried to clear the snow off of my car, which was challenging, because there was ice on the ground, and the snow had a hard dense layer of sleet in it. Drove to work, spent a few hours seeing a demo of the equipment. Then drove back home. This afternoon's ta-da's: Cooked some turkey wings with some rice, collected eggs from the coop... took a break. I've been tired lately. Still to-do: Fill bird feeder Water houseplants Some paperwork/taxes, etc.
