good morning everypony!
enjoy, bree! it makes my heart happy to know you have a small slice of freedom! oust I am coming to accept that not everyday can be productive. even that not every day should be productive! I think you are doing great.
I'm hoping DVD will be able to pick up my missing meds today. It's thrown me off and I am frustrated. Provider was quite sympathetic. Also the shower drain was backed up, so I have only taken quick ones and not really washed my hair. After trying the hair snake, I finally got some gobbler. Next is the hot water!
DVD wants me to come on a walk with him and D later. I am torn between "shoulds." I think what I want is a day at home. I do need to do my exercises! now my other knee is getting sore!
DONE: fed cat who hopped on my bladder until I got up caffeinated updated log updated bill pay
sent photos to art thread checked online balance checked email discussed taking DMIL to community theatre for M's day next month
checked calendar added to my action list
NEXT UP: take meds--holding off on one unless I can get the missing one today to see if that helps with anxiety write note for DVD to take to pharmacy pour hot water in drain what to wear? shower, hair, skin, dress
ON DECK: call box office re: walker accessability call dealership re: loaner vs uber call ins. re: missing forms register account call Amex to get app set up redeem points for gift card for future appliance purchases

TwinkleToes is on FIRE!!!!! Wow - you put us all to shame!
mls - my best friend's brother had a girlfriend that we referred to as Penny Bright as her hair was all multi colored!
I had a good day today but not so good on the decluttering scale. I went to my favorite thrift shop to tell my friend i retired and i got some clothes. i found a pair of elastic waist flowy pants for $1. i was going to buy them at Boskovs for $20. that was ok. i grabbed a few baby items and some shirts and a summer skirt for me i went to Sams to get something for my mom. i grabbed underwear for dh, jeans for me and DS, only one baby item, items for bonus grand daughter and a couple of baby books.
i am now home wearing my new to me summer skirt - it fits perfectly - and looking at everything that needs a home i have so many things that no longer fit - i need help ruthlessly weeding it all out

Good afternoon folks!
The handyman left about an hour ago, I ate dinner immediately because I didn't stop for lunch. I'm SO tired and sore, but it was a good day.
Once again, there was an unexpected complication--maybe I should have expected it, but it didn't occur to me that the leftover soil from the delivery 2.5 years ago, that has had volunteer plants growing in it each year, would be so hard to remove from the concrete. The handyman had to take a sharp shovel and scrape, scrape, scrape to clear the areas where the wooden frame will go--it took a long time. The things we bought this morning were so heavy that he made three trips to get it to my house in his old truck so he didn't risk damage. During one pick up of stuff, he left me at Walmart to grab produce and refrigerated stuff again and then picked me up on the way back.
Once he got all the soil off the frame area and in the center of the cement slab, he put down the first of three wooden frames, including drilling through to the cement so it stays put. He will be back Monday to put the other two levels on, plus work on putting the paving stones down. I won't order the dirt until Monday, so we can see what the weather forecast will be for the week.
I helped him lift the 4x4 boards, I took one end and slid it into the truck and he pushed it in--there were 16 of them and they were quite heavy. Then I helped load and unload the paving stones, although of course, he did most of the work. While he was working I cut down lots of branches from the back of the yard, plus I raked up lots of loose twigs.
Over the last couple of days I've felt pretty good in that nothing in particular hurt a lot--my scraped knee only hurts now when I put pressure on it--but tonight things hurt. I'm sure they'll feel better in the morning. It felt good to be able to help, even though it was a small amount.
I now have to call my decluttering client and make a brief call to my shopping friend. I have some produce sitting in bags that have to go in the fridge, and I want an update from cable news yet tonight. Then I think I'll be getting to bed nice and early!
Diane

Oh, even if I don't have clothing to get rid of (I barely have enough clothing to wear right now) I would read a clothing decluttering thread, just to read about people decluttering things!
Golden, my yard is a typical city lot size yard, not tiny, but not large either. The confusing thing for people when I talk about it is that I refer to the front part of the yard and the back part of the yard. When I moved here, the back yard was divided roughly in half by a chain link fence across it--behind the fence, the area between the fence and the alley was open to the alley. There used to be a garage there, and then next to the garage someone put gravel, many, many years ago--I assume to make an additional parking space. The garage was torn down not long after my sister moved here 30-some years ago. And since she and her husband had NO interest in the yard at all, they never planted anything in the front half of the yard, just paid a lawn service to mow the lawn every week. And they completely ignored the back part, so that dirt eventually blew up and sort of covered the cement slab that the garage was on, as well as the gravel next to the cement slab. The whole back area became covered with grass and weeds so that you barely see the cement slab, and couldn't see the gravel at all.
After I moved here I felt very vulnerable with the back yard open to the alley like that, (the chain link fence is not very high so it wouldn't be hard to climb over) plus I wanted to plant as much as possible in the yard, so I had my handyman put up a privacy fence right next to the alley. So now there is the front half of the yard from the back of the house up to the chain link fence, which is still there, plus the back half of the yard which isn't great for planting because of the cement slab and the gravel underneath the layer of dirt that accumulated next to the cement slab. A year and a half ago the handyman used his tilling machine on the area with the gravel under the dirt--despite all the gravel, he managed to create an area with some beds to plant, which are now full of monarda, milkweed, and a few other things.
This year, he is building a 10x16 foot wooden frame, between 10 and 11 inches high (because apparently 4x4 lumber isn't really 4x4, but 3.5x3.5 inches--no idea why) which will be filled with dirt. The alternative was to break up the cement and remove it--much too complicated and expensive, or, just keep a cement slab with some random dirt on it. Not quite a foot isn't a lot of root space for native perennial pollinator plants--they have very deep roots. So, I can't plant those, but I'm going to use it for lambs quarter plants, which the birds love because of the seeds in the fall--and for any other volunteer type plants that I don't want to get rid of, but that I don't want in the regular yard. Plus, I will plant some annuals there if I have time--they don't need as much root space because they only live for one summer. This gives me another very large plot to plant more things that the birds and insects will like.
I don't know if I explained that well enough for you to picture it. The handyman also prepared a narrow rectangle just inside the alley fence, and another narrow rectangle along a side fence near the front gate of the yard, and a small circle on the side of the house so I could plant a zucchini plant without it taking over a whole corner of the yard, which is what happened last year. Well, the zucchini plant and the volunteer pumpkin plants...
This uses up just about all the space that there is left in both parts of the yard, so this will be my last garden expense. I shouldn't really be spending the money, but the yard is so important to me, even more so that I don't have the dog anymore--other than my parakeets, the outside animals (bees, butterflies, other insects, birds, squirrels and rabbits--and yes, even the raccoon that tore a hole in the door frame) are now "my" animals. I can't live without animals around.
I made my phone calls and did a little seedling care this evening, but my eyes are starting to close so even though it's only 7, I'm going to get ready for bed and hopefully get some reading done since I didn't have a chance to read at all today.
Tomorrow I will read back here to see what happened today, but for now, good night everyone, see you tomorrow in the weekend thread!
Diane

Diane, your explanation is very clear. Thank you. I can picture it! I looked up the lumber measurement explanation for you. When the wood is run through the sawmill, it really is 4" x 4". That's rough sawn. Then they smooth it down to 3.5" x 3.5". Apparently in the olden days people would buy and use true 4 x 4s. I had assumed the smaller size was because wood for construction is pressure treated. Maybe both are true. I once put in a garden where previous tenants must have been working on cars or something. There was a small section where nothing would grow, part of which was black, which I imagine was motor oil. At another place I lived there was an old parking area which was so compacted only weeds would grow. I can see your challenge. I know what you mean about squash plants. They really want their space, and yours, too! It's great that you care about the wild animals and are providing livable space for them. You've made your corner of the world a better place.
