Thanks Unswamping! I do make a little head way but then focus elsewhere and lose some ground. I know eventually it will all be done but somedays..... I do feel better when I drink enough water. Not so hard to do when it's hot but especially if the weather is cool I tend to just drink hot tea instead. Of course now our unusually cool spell is over and we're hovering around 92 degrees. So a little done today; the usual chores and such plus I sprayed spinosid, a certified organic spray that does not harm bees or predatory insects but helps kill off chewing and sucking insects. I have not used it before but flea beetles and leaf hoppers are terrible here and this year worse than usual. I also spent the early morning dumping and refilling the fly traps, spraying down the garbage can afterwards along with some open areas where flies congregate. This is the worst year I have ever seen and all the old time ranchers and horse people are saying the same thing. I worked half a day and spent some late evening time on the driveway project and brushing Giotto, my dog. He is a Maremma (similar to a Pyrenees) and his undercoat is finally turning loose, so trying to get it all raked out to help him be a bit cooler. It will take several weeks for it all to turn loose and come off of him and I will harvest 1=2 pounds of fiber (have a box full and hoping I can get some time this summer to start spinning it up to use it. it's as soft as Angora). He does not like to be brushed except for this time of year and again in fall when he sheds out some more. The rest of the time its no bueno. so my day is done and it's past bedtime; good night

And today's agenda. Lets see how much i can get done.
Breakfast chores laundry kitchen desk move chicks clean brooder work on driveway
afternoon chores brush teeth AM PM drink more water 4 pints down
well not much of the above. What I did get done is I redid the steps up to the hill pen which took me all morning. These are made with a board held up by a couple of rebar stakes then dirt and rocks raked down level, then another board set. This did get several boards out of the driveway. By the time I was done it was way too hot to do anything else and I was tired. I took the afternoon off and played with wool. I am almost done with this box of wool, which will get it out of the living room.
Instead of moving some older chicks from the brooder coop to another coop I set up some broody hens in the other coop. I have some eggs that should hatch today and if the hens will stay broody after moving them I will give the chicks to them. That will take some work off of me the next few weeks. I do have chicks in the house that do need to go out to the brooder coop.

Today is market so a short list. You know I was really on a roll there for awhile and really making progress but have lately been feeling a bit sad and sorry for myself and overwhelmed.. Just way too much to do here breakfastchoresaft ernoon choresbrush teeth AM PMdrink more water 6 pints down 5 min room rescues bathroom living room 5 min of picking up trash and removing things that shouldn't live there desk / front room used that new swiffer thing and got tons of cobwebs off the ceiling and walls; there are more but I have to move furniture to get to them kitchen did 5 min picking up trash and putting away clean dishes. Loads more that needs done in there. Located the stinky dead pot that was beginning to crawl. Poured boiling water in it to kill the crawlies. Other: took some chicks out of the incubator; more are hatching. Happy days. Watered the outdoor brooder chicks, they are kicking shavings into their waterer but they aren't quite big enough yet for me to set it up on a brick. Ate lunch got my coupons out and made a list and went to the store. Came home and put away all the stuff. Started to make ice tea and realized I forgot to buy ice why do I have to buy ice? Because the icemaker is broken and there isn't enough room for the appliance guy to come work on it or to fix my oven.... While at the store I bought a duster. A heavy duty swiffer with extension handle to 6'. Because I have cobwebs on top of cobwebs.... maybe I will use it in a few minutes... watered some plants and brushed the dog; he's blowing his undercoat and it's coming out by the handful

Well and a new day dawns. Today I will focus on the driveway and back area. I have to get that cleaned up and be able to get a truck in there before the 22nd.
breakfast chores driveway made a HUGE and visible difference this morning. I want to do some more but that is a real open area without a speck of shade and now it is getting way too hot to be out there.
afternoon chores brush teeth AM PM drink more water 4 pint down
Other; It got way too hot outside and now it's hot inside. Going to take a nap in a minute.
Did 5 min in the living room on the piles in front of the cooler and then spent some time sorting out the giant seed box. I pulled out some old seeds I'm just going to toss around and if they grow thats fine and if not, oh well. I also pulled out seeds I want to plant in different areas.
Then I sat down and I entered all my reciepts for May into QB. The totals are depressing but after I remembered I hadn't recorded some sales they got better.

maryaz - I can relate to being overwhelmed and down in the dumps. I look at the huge mess in the yard now and don't feel like doing anything. But I know if I did a little every day, it would get better and better ...

larataylor I hear you. and it sure seems like you aren't making a dent for a loooong time. It just seems like it takes forever to see real, visible difference. Although for me I can see progress faster outside than in, but I do tend to spend more time working on outdoor stuff than indoor stuff. I've been trying not to let it overwhelm me. Just keep swimming. It didn't get like this overnight and it's not going to get clean in a day. It's alright, things are moving along. I've got some clean spots. Everything will work out. Everything will be alright. Everything I do has an impact. It doesn't all have to be done right this minute.

Working at 12 today so another short list
breakfast chores dump fly traps take out trash (today is trash day) plant new plants and set up new soaker hose
afternoon chores brush teeth AM PM drink more water 5 pint down
other: Setting up some large pots to plant in. Some of the gardens have been infested with root knot nematodes but I have open areas to set pots so I can grow more stuff while the infested areas are out of production. And I have plenty of pots. I'm a pot hoarder ;-)
I hauled sandy gravel from the creek bottom for all the chickens.

It was 106 yesterday. Terrified the dog will have a heat stroke up in the hill pen because it gets all the afternoon sun. I have put up a lot of shade cloth but don't think it's enough. I pulled out an old set of misters and have them soaking in vinegar for the lime crust. Hoping they will all work. Going to put them up today. Time to get to the cooler and set it up too. I may have to start letting the dog come in the house in the afternoon. Predictions are about 100 all week, but that was the prediction yesterday too and it was much hotter.
breakfast chores misters cooler driveway
plant pots afternoon chores brush teeth AM PM drink more water 5 pints down
I did get the cooler up and running without much issue; just had to clean it out and splice the water line where the packrats chewed on it over the winter. Got too hot too quick to work on the driveway so will try and focus on that in the morning. Got some pots filled with soil and watered, will put plants in them tomorrow.
The mister set up is an issue tho, with compression fittings popping off on the supply line. Picked up some hose clamps so that should fix that. Still worried it might not be enough if it get much hotter.

Well Fri & Sat were pretty crazy with a market Fri evening in Superior and again early Sat morning in Globe. Don't even remember what else I did besides regular chores! I have been feeling that I am not getting as much done in a day as I should. That my time management is off. So instead of a list of to dos today I thought I'd list what I've been doing with times. 5-6 am; up, dressed, had tea and FB. Moved indoor chicks from the small brooder to a bigger one. Added water to the incubator. Last hatch due soon. 6-730 worked on back area 730-745 drinking water and looking around the computer; 2 pints down 745-9 fed and watered chickens. watered some plant areas by hand, set soaker hose on the row of sage that never seems to be getting enough. 9- 945 rest; water 3 pints down, cooked and ate breakfast, moved the water hose. 945-1020 hand watered some plants to keep them from croaking. They really need a good soaking but I'm already afraid of my next water bill. Planted a thornless locust tree seedling. Put the hose on the drip system of a garden. Found a hidden nest of eggs. 1020 Brought them in and float tested, half passed. Drink water 4 pints down. 1040-1145 Did move a couple more things out back but spent most of the time moving water hoses around. It's about 93 out there now. Came in and turned the cooler on. Drink water. 5 pints down. 114-300 Not even positive what I've been doing Piddling around in the house a bit. I did bring in dry clothes, folded and put away. deleted a bunch of emails. picked up some trash, cleaned out an incubator and put it away. moved water hoses, set up one to spray the dog. There goes my water bill. loaded coupons to my shopping card. went to the store, came home and put it all away. The sign said 98 degrees. ugh. Drank water 7 pints down 3:00-4;00 laid down and read some in my newest book "Dirt to Soil" by Gabe Brown. If you have any interest in farming or gardening of any kind look him up on youtube. 4-420 made raspberry fool for the potluck tonight 420-930 Did chores, shut off waters, loaded up and went to my friends potluck. She does it every Sunday during the summer. She usually provides the meat and everyone brings the rest. She's up to about 40 guests a week, many of them are not the same from one week to the next. Nice way to meet new people and get to know who does what, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, jack of all trades, you name it, they are probably there. Came home and fed the dog. Going to go take a shower and go to bed. Working early in the morning. Bonus: each time I sat down at the computer today, while I was drinking my water, I deleted emails. 1194 deleted today.

Well Mon and Tue were work days so not much else done besides chores and watering. Wed I spent the morning working on the back area until it was too hot. The well driller stopped by and showed me where he could get his rig in and of course it's no where near where I've already been cleaning up. That's OK tho, I'm excited. I cannot afford to keep paying the water company for all the water I need for the gardens. So today is major driveway / back area focus so my sister can get in with my wood cook stove on Sat. It will be some time before I can get it into the house but will happen eventually. Then a major push to get the well site accessible. I have been doing pretty good drinking enough water and remembering to eat ;-)
last chick hatch is due tomorrow. I do need to get some pens cleaned and birds moved around. The babies are growing up fast.

well a little reprieve on the back area, sis won't make it until the 4th. I did get one small pen cleaned out; going to move some birds into that one and get 2 others cleaned up so I can start moving chicks into bigger quarters. Making decisions on which adults will stay and which will go to freezer camp or get moved to the big layer pen as soon as I can manage it.
We have a huge wild fire burning less than 30 miles north of me. Some communities have been evacuated and some are on alert to be ready to go. There is a community meeting tonight for us. I don't *think* it will hop an open pit mine and a highway and get to me but you never know. This is the Woodbury fire in central AZ. About 50,000 acres and moving fast because it is very dry and we are having high winds. Terrain is very steep mountains and canyons that they can't get workers into. Biggest focus at the moment is protecting infrastructure like high voltage electric lines, ranches, business, the highways. Already thinking in my head what do I need if they tell me to get ready.
So with that hanging over me I've mostly been watering and getting ready for market. Will deliver orders over to Superior today. Was too hot to be outside in the sun by 10 this morning and I've been goofin off mostly since I came inside. I suppose I should get something done.
