Well the wild fire north of me is still growing towards Roosevelt lake, a major recreational area as well as residential with several large cattle ranches. However the temps are down a bit and the wind is less so the fire has slowed down some this morning. The south and west sides are basically out, with growth to the North and East. I am safe and am not even getting a lot of smoke from it. But it has been a bit unnerving to have it so close and in the beginning not knowing where it was going. The Roosevelt area has been evacuated, mostly so that fire fighters can work unimpeded. They are working on burnout and clearing operations to protect the structures in the area as well as infrastructure and a 700 year old cliff dwelling.
So yesterday I basically did farmers market and came home and took a nap. Not much else done.
Today I have:
cleaned two 7x9 pens and disinfected them. Scared up a couple mice in the process but of course the cat was looking the other way... Did chores and ate breakfast. Took chicks out of the incubator. A couple left that weren't ready yet. Will check on them tonight. When they come out can turn it off and clean it up.
I am almost done cleaning up the driveway. The back area needs a huge amount more work, but enough is done that once the driveway is clear I can get a truck up there.
The well driller has come and picked a spot he can get his rig into and of course it is junked up and it's not the area I've been cleaning. So that will be the next priority.
I really should do some inside work but not at all motivated.

no time frame on the well yet; I have to clear out a huge junk pile and then let him know the space is cleared. Will go from there.

The fire is winding down a bit; they lifted the evacuation order for a nearby town. Some pockets inside the fire lines will burn for awhile but they will watch it and hopefully it will all die down and out soon. burned over 110,000 acres.
so Mon and Tues were mostly the usual chores with half days at work. On Tues I did get brooder coops cleaned out and chicks moved around. Now just the last hatch of the season in the house.
This morning before it got to hot to be outside I reskinned a door. I had used an old interior door on a coop and it was finally disintegrating. The frame was still in pretty good shape but most of the veneer was shredding. I have some aluminum which was originally the top of a pop up camper trailer, then recycled as the roof of a movable coop which I'm dismantling because it's too wide and too heavy, especially on my slopes. So this morning I popped it off, took the door down and put the aluminum on the door. I do need to find a handle of some kind and a better latch. I know I have stuff I can use in here but not sure where they went....
Today I've done some dishes and laundry. And goofed off a bit.

This mornings plan is outside work while it's cool then inside work when it gets hot.
So Far: put in a load of laundry because I realized I was running out of socks. (I only buy white towels and white socks these days to make it easier to do them altogether since there is just me and otherwise the loads would be too small)

Well almost noon and just finished up outside. Got most of the things moved out of the driveway, next part of that will be to cut back some trees and weeds so you can see the rock wall and not run into it but not today! Already 96 out there, supposed to be about 105 today; pretty sure it will be at least that hot. I'm just real glad we are not setting records this summer!
So part of moving junk was a couple pallets and I used them and a big peice of cardboard to make a compost bin bigger. (I line the pallets with cardboard so stuff doesn't fall out). Watered several gardens.
Fed and watered all the chickens. Set the mister up for the dog. May have to bring him in later if he looks distressed from the heat. Will be so glad to be done with some of this other crap so I can get the fence finished and he can get to cooler/shadier areas. Ate breakfast.
just going to chill for a little bit!

wow, after 4:00. mmmmm what have I been doing!?
I did clean out the big indoor brooder and moved the last hatch of chicks into it. (now I need to clean out put away the little brooder box) I moved water hoses and watered potted plants that were getting droopy. Ate lunch and snacks. Made spearmint ice tea. hung up the laundry. played on the computer. spun some dog hair. (have a big box full I'm trying to get spun up so I can use it)

I am so over summer already. It's been 105 the last few days and it's after dark and still almost 90.
haven't done much Fri and Sat because I had farmers markets. did post a bit in the week day work along and some few things done.
supposed to be back into the high 90s this coming week so hope that helps. Tomorrow is Sunday so will probably work outside a lot in the morning while it's cool then do a few things inside.
Right now I'm just wore out from the heat, even tho I took a nap. So I may go to bed early too.

I've been checking in on some of the other threads but not a lot of forward progress in the house. Mostly outside getting ready for my sister to bring my wood stove over today and starting on the space I need cleared for the well driller to get his rig in.
In the meantime some thoughts that have occurred to me..
I have been stepping over some piles for so long they are invisible until I trip over them. Then I am by turns disgusted, frustrated and depressed. I know it's going to take time but dang it'd be nice to see faster progress. Of course it would help if there wasn't sooooo much to do inside and out!
And this time of year with it being so hot is the worst. I spend so much time trying to keep things alive plus it's much harder to get ouside things done when my work window is much smaller due to the heat. I am grateful tho this summer is not has hot as the last two when we were setting all time records.
I'm also grateful that I recognize I have issues and I'm working on them.
I'm grateful that I have a roof over my head and everything that goes with that.
I'm grateful I can mostly do what I want and am getting by
I'm grateful I don't have a lot of health issues like some my age.

OK, so IDK, maybe I ought to put this over in Listzilla but afraid it might get lost because it's going to take some time to get there! THE MAJOR BIG GIANT LIST OF STUFF THAT I NEED, WANT, HAVE TO GET DONE BY THE END OF THE YEAR! clear the bottom lot so the well driller can get in. I have been working on this and have made some progress. Still some junk metal, my daughters disabled vehicle, roll of chain link fence, some fence posts and other things in the way along with part of a pile of wood chips. Fence: I need to set two gate posts and put up the gates I bought across the driveway. I need to run some fence between chicken / garden areas so that dog can run the whole space without digging up gardens. Rough estimate 250-300 linear feet, which means pounding 25-30 T-posts in, plus probably some extras for gates and braces. Storage building: Once the well is done I can assess the amount of money I have left and consider getting a portable shed building to handle tools, feed and other things from the house. (Internal debate has been: well a 12x20 is $6,000 delivered and set up.... how much more would a 20x30 two story cost...) Once the storage building is done and major things out of the house, I can fix the corner of the kitchen where the woodcook stove is going to live.... Greenhouse: once the storage building question is settled I need a major greenhouse. I have been collecting glass doors and windows for one for years. Can all of that happen in 6 months? ? Probably not! There is just me! But a bunch of this can happen. I am hoping that the well will be finished by the end of August.

Well I have made some progress on the well site, but it gets sun first thing in the morning and all the late afternoon / evening so hard to work out there when it's 105 outside!
This week working on a set of 4 book case type shelves that have become a real mess. All kinds of tools/hardware/ chicken supplies/ books/ paint/ garden stuff. Oh and boxes of natural dyes from when I used to sell them and give workshops.
3 of the 4 sets of shelves are now dusted; 2 sets I have been putting things on in an organized manner. 1 set at the moment is empty. 1 set, the worst one, needs going through.

The well site is almost ready for the driller; still some junk and the car to get moved. The house is a train wreck as I haven't been doing a whole lot in here, although the front room isn't as bad as it was and the shelves are pretty organized.
Some deep thoughts this weekend. Why do I clutter up my entrances and pathways. I'm sure there is a reason somewhere. Months back I cleaned up my front entry and walk way and it was so nice to have room to walk through. Now it is all junked up again.
Same in the house, the space to the back door has became just a pile of stuff that I have to climb over to get to the back porch, washing machine and the outside door. There's a stack of boxes partly blocking my bedroom doorway.
Like I am barricading myself into my house. I don't know why. I don't feel afraid of anything, like people coming in. I live alone but I'm in a rural area and have never feared for my safety.
But I think if I could get to the reason *why* then maybe I wouldn't do it any more?

Maybe it would be helpful to inventory what is actually cluttering up the entry ways. It may be something simple as acquiring things before you actually have a place to put them within your home. Or not have a proper landing spot for things you regularly bring in and out of the house. In my case I would say briefcase and purse but maybe you have tools or a tool belt that is always with you in addition to the briefcase and purse. Do you regularly get dressed/undressed in farm clothes near your entryways? I know at my DM's farm - we had a spot for boots and overalls as the visiting farmers would get semi-undressed on her back porch before coming into the house. Keep the manure smell outside please You are frequently bringing pets in and out - does their stuff have "homes"? Just my 2 cents. We always have mail and packages cluttering up our kitchen island and it is simply because they have no regular landing spot. I take the mail to work to sort and handle there so it eventually gets in my briefcase. And, technically the packages should be "unpackaged" and put away. But most days - it vacations on the island for a bit before being moved to where it actually belongs. PC

I agree with everything that phoenixcat said!
Then again, the problem may be as "simple" as having a habit that is not serving you well--that habit being what I call "Just For Now."
My DH and I have had this bad habit for years! "We'll put it here--just for now." Then, twenty years later, it's *still* there . . . !!!
We are doing better at "breaking" this habit.
I realize that your situation is a little different since you do clear out your entryways every so often.
