Nice to see so much activity here, and the various challenges you all have, and the way you are approaching your goals. As Larry the Cable Guy says, Git 'er done!
I'm planning on posting a weekly-ish update of how things are going here. I'm really liking the 5 minutes per day, with emphasis on dealing with 'the little things'. It's training my eye to look for the little bits and pieces I formerly would ignor because it ' wasn't bad enough' to deal with yet. And, hence, over the years I've done a lot of back-sliding till things DID get bad enough, and then areas became something i resisted dealing with... because it was now bad. Destructive, downward spiral. And then when I finally did get to it, I'd really hate having to clear/clean areas I had just done the year before! So now, every day, the earlier in the day the better (before I'm fully awake, or something else distracts me), I've been putting in my 5 minutes. And it's making a difference, both visually as well as emotionally. I can do 5 minutes....

I love reading this thread! My goals for August is this list. I might not get everything done, but it will keep me focused enough to make progress at the very least! The most important thing is to deal with all the undone paper work projects, all are urgent and important. I'll make a more detailed list in my blog. I will be finally tackling my storage space in the basement. It needs a through cleaning, and reorganizing and taking some things from my home down there. I haven't done practically anything to it all year I have lived here, and it's nagging me. I would also love removing everything from under my bed. It's only a bin for out of season clothes, and my bright light lamp (SAD lamp) box, and one larger item I want to sell or donate. Sometimes I have my mini trampoline there, too, but I have another place for it. I would like to have it clear at all times. I also want to sell and/or donate the largest items that are taking space here, most importantly, a small table, two chairs and a side table. Additionally I want to get back to adding deep cleaning tasks to my weeks. I recently restarted this, and I've already made lot of progress. For example I want to wash the balcony area rug, and empty the lint filter of my washing machine. In list form: 1. deal with all the undone paper work projects, all are urgent and important 2. include deep cleaning tasks to my weeks, such as washing the balcony area rug, cleaning the lint filted from the washing machine 3. clean and organize my basement storage 4. sell and donate especially the largest items 5. clear the space under my bed, and store the things elsewhere. I would like to replace my bright light lamp with a new, small model. The one I have is HUGE and takes a ton of space, both when in use or stored. I managed to tackle an additional organizing task I forgot to write in my list: I finally figured out a functioning way of storing my adjustable dumbbells. It's not 100% perfect solution, but good enough for now, and the weights are out of sight, away from the floor, yet easy enough to get out when needed. I also booked a laundry room for next Saturnday for washing my balcony area rug.

I spent 5 minutes putting yesterday's clean dishes away and getting last night's dishes ready for the sink. I also put away some water bottles in the cabinet. I'm finding the 5 minute tidies are really making a difference in the house. All this was done while waiting on the coffee pot.

I think I am often focusing on small stuff, ignoring larger tasks. I think finding a balance is the key!

I bought some bits for my kitchen tidy-up. Thought I'd do that this evening. First of all, I worked late, then after that, I updated my check register and budget, payday is Friday.
By the time I pick up supper and eat, I probably won't have the oomph to do more. I might, tho. Progress and marking things off the list is pretty exciting. yea, no.

You all are doing great!
Well, ideas without conclusions have been rattling around in my head, but now I think I know what I'll do. The difficulty is that while I have plenty of visible stuff that needs to be decluttered, I have business-of-life matters that are both urgent and important, and must be dealt with. Having these hanging over my head has been dreadful and depleting, and the messes are discouraging. I've been procrastinating on both types, because they're unattractive and at any given time it seems I should do one and not the other.
So my August effort is going to be twofold: 1) I will do pieces of what I had planned to do in my July kitchen challenge. This will include clearing my largest counter, and that may be all I do in the kitchen. 2) Work on tiny steps of my life business every day. I have Projects H, RT, and G. They all matter, and there will be consequences if I continue procrastinating.
Until later...

August goals: 1. STARTED deal with all the undone paper work projects, all are urgent and important 2. STARTED include deep cleaning tasks to my weeks, such as washing the balcony area rug ( ), cleaning the lint filted from the washing machine 3. clean and organize my basement storage 4. STARTED sell and donate especially the largest items 5. STARTED clear the space under my bed, and store the things elsewhere. (+ find place for adjustable dumbbells [ ].) Some updates. I haven't advanced my paperwork projects as much as I would have liked or, in fact, needed. I have been super busy with work though. But I got an important piece of information regarding two of my projects, both of which were "pending" when I waited for that info. Now I can finally tackle them both, they shouldn't be too difficult or take very long, and most of the anxiety is now gone too. When I get those done, I will have more room in my head for the other paperwork projects, so I will try to do these both on Monday. Today I did more progress on my second goal of including more deep cleaning into my weeks. I washed balcony's area rug, and two area rugs from my entry way. I don't plan washing more rugs this year. The balcony rug, which belongs to the landlord and I have no idea when it was washed the last time, was absolutely filthy. I washed it 6 times, first rinsed, scrubbed and lathered, repeatedly. It actually changed colour as it got cleaner! Unfortunately it will never look like new again, but it's much better now! While the rug is away from the balcony floor, I wiped the floor clean too. NOt detailed cleaning, because they will soon start renovating the windows, but just a general good wiping down with a soapy water and a micro fibre towel. It was really dirty too. I also tackled the last undone cabinet from the bathroom, I did the rest of them a while ago, last weekend maybe? My fourth goal, I have sort of passively worked on it. I have ads about my furniture on online second hand groups. I have someone who is interested in buying my table, but couldn't fit the other furniture I'd like to sell as a package with it. So I am considering breaking up the package, and selling her the table alone, if she is still interested. At least I'd have one less piece of unneeded furniture here. Who knows, maybe the side table and chair will also sell better if I'd try to sell them one by one. My final goal of clearing the space under my bed hasn't progressed. I did, as I already tell, got all my dumbbells off the floors, they were preveviously "homeless" and took space by my bed. I have been immensely enjoying the empty bed side areas! One of the things I store under my bed is my huge, old bright light lamp in its box. I have also been googling those new, small bright light lamps, to replace my old huge one, but they tend to have this problem that you'd need to keep them super close to your eyes, like 10-20 centimeters away, where-as my old like can be over 50 cm away. I also read the new ones do not match the quality of the old huge Phillips, so I am not yet sure what to do. I hate the size of the old one, whether it's in or out of season for it, but it's a very good quality piece that has helped me with SAD symptoms. I'll need to think about this some more.

GOALS for AUGUST: 1. Declutter Kitchen. 4 shelves (A bag will be a plastic shopping bag full) 2. Declutter 4 bags from bathrooms 3. Declutter 4 bags from laundry room 4. Declutter 4 bags from bedroom 5. Project: 4 hours working on Anthologie quilt 6. Project: 4 hours work on tiling in my shower stall 7. Complete assignments for next chapter in Buried in Treasures. I need to step up the pace a bit... but as a reminder to myself, I am making progress even if I don't complete everything on my list.
