Thought I'd add my nature observation to this thread. This morning I got to see four honeybees sharing the same large pumpkin flower. The pumpkin plants are looking especially luxurious right now.

Hi reve and golden!
Reve, that's interesting that you get muscle pain from tension also, maybe that's what I'm feeling today.
Golden, you have pumpkin plants? You must have a large yard! Are they large pumpkins or the mini ones? How many pumpkins do you get from one plant? One of my volunteers only has one mini-pumpkin, the other has two slightly larger ones. That other plant that is unidentified hasn't done anything, although, as you say, the bees love the flowers on all four plants and I see them in them all the time. I guess growing squash plants will be my next research project, I see some of the flowers just fall off instead of turning into a fruit, there must be some reason for that. Of course, three out of these four plants just appeared, so I certainly don't pay attention to the type of soil or even how much water they get, with the exception of the zucchini plant. And...do I want to take up as much space in the yard next year with squash plants? Probably not. But they certainly are fun, especially when they magically appear!
I did a little work on plants, and I also went online looking at very small, narrow desks, which are the exact size I want for the reading room table--so I ordered one. I have spent way more money the last couple of months than I should have, so I think this has to be my last discretionary purchase for a while--with the exception of whatever the handyman ends up doing this fall. I even ordered a couple of houseplants last week, which I swore I would not do for the rest of the year. They should come today, actually. One is my favorite kind of haworthia, they are hard to find. And something I never heard of before, it's called Euphorbia flanaganii f. cristata, I love most Euphorbias and this one is so cute.
Speaking of cute, I just saw a new Chewy commercial, they have the best ads. This one has the dog watching a movie in bed with his people. And another cute ad is for Jinx dog food--where the guy is being pushed out of his bed because his little dog is sleeping in the middle of it--that is so much like me and my dog, which is part of the reason I'm having trouble getting enough sleep. I can't tell what kind of dog is in the Jinx ad--a Boston or a French Bulldog--it kind of looks like a cross between the two, but you only see it for short periods so I haven't been able to examine it carefully.
Enough distraction for now.

Diane, the back yard is not all that large, but much of it is devoted to gardening. The pumpkins, as with any squash that isn't on a trellis, take up a ridiculous amount of room. I'm not sure what kind of productivity we get, or even how many plants we have. I'll try to remember to get back to you on this around Halloween. These are fairly large-- jack o'lantern size. The one that I've noticed is still green, and somewhat larger than a cantaloupe so far.

Scholar, I think squash blossoms are so pretty, they look kind of like lilies.
Very interesting golden! What else do you grow, is it mostly vegetables? (Or fruits, as many things we think of as veggies are technically called!) Yes, because of the fact that the volunteer plants appeared at random, two of them are really taking up way too much space around one of my rain barrels, I have to keep pushing or trimming the leaves back so I can walk on the paving stones to get to the barrel--and to my basement steps!

Okay it's time for dinner. I'm happy with today, this morning I didn't think I'd get anything at all done.
Here's another distraction for me, the Hallmark Channel has listed the new Christmas movies for this year (they start their Countdown to Christmas on October 20th!) So of course I had to go look at who would be in them. Only a handful of my favorite people are in movies even though there are something like 40 movies between the two channels. But that won't stop me from watching them. That's why I was in a Christmas mood today.
I heard a bluejay a while ago and made a special trip out to the porch to put out some peanuts, but I saw it flying away several houses over and it hasn't come back. I don't see many of them, I love the sound they make.

I have been seeing large mushrooms growing on the grass here. I don't know if they are edible but they look just like the white ones we but, only much much bigger.
I picked a big handful of tomatoes tonight. Its started producing a good amought again after not liking the hot summer.
Garage wise, incredible progress. After a very upsetting day deciding to let things go we have filled the SUV 2 times and taken some to Walmart clothing bin and the rest to the dumpster here where the neighbours pick through things. Our set of glass coffee tables was especially hard to say goodbye too. Its been 20 years but as we are older now, one fall onto a glass coffee table could be dangerous, so safety has to come first. Unfortunately accidents do happen and falls hitting a soft carpet or the corner of a glass table, well we decided on the better option. Who would guess memories of the furniture could make tears.

Oust, memories of anything can cause tears, I think, especially as we grow older. It's a rare day when I don't tear up over something, these days.
You probably shouldn't eat those mushrooms...
I love seeing mushrooms grow, but I don't like eating them. Did I mention that there are mushrooms growing in some of the plants I repotted over the last several months? I guess the packaged potting soil isn't as "clean" as I thought it was. I noticed the last time I used it that the bag says "keep out of the reach of children." I don't know if that means they might encounter something dangerous in the soil, or if they might throw it all over the carpet!
Good night everyone, see you in the morning.

Hi Everyone !!
I've been doing the dailies and taking out trash. Have been making "business" calls and also have talked to 2 good friends today. I watered the front porch plants. Did some laundry. Some PUPA, not much.
Have processed most of papers on the DR table.
I have not been doing any challenge work the last few days, and nor have I been vacuuming or doing deep cleaning things like that.
Wishing good things for every one.

Good morning scholar! Sounds like your sleep patterns are not good now either.
I had a fairly decent night last night, and before I went to bed I reminded myself I needed to mow this morning. I woke up at 6, got up, and said, I'll have to mow this morning. Then I looked outside and at the weather forecast, it looked like rain was coming and it said "scattered showers." I'm very pleased to say that although I first said--oh, I guess I can't mow this morning, I then said--this is making me anxious already, just go out and mow, if it starts raining I'll just have to stop. I'll just do the front and do the rest another day.
So I went out at 8, mowed the problematic front, mowed the side, and then went to the alley to do the strip on the other side of the fence. The grass in the back was just out of control because I didn't mow it last time, but I was tired and hurting already and didn't want to face it. So I said, I'll just do the area where the dog mostly likes to go, it makes it easier to pick things up. Then I kept going on that side, and then I finally said, I'll finish the small area on the other side that I can get to, considering that half that side is covered with squash plants.
So I'm done! At least with the mowing part. I still have to trim longer plants at the edges of the yard and around the downspouts in front, pick up the clumps of grass that I cleaned out of the mower before putting it away, wash the stains from the pokeweed berries that are on the mower handle from hitting the plant while mowing next to them, and try to cut down a brown, dead branch of one of the mulberry trees that is starting to hang over the fence into the alley. But not today.
This really bring home the value of looking at things in baby steps, if I had said I would mow everything today I most likely would not have gone out at all.
It never did rain, and the sun is trying to come out at the moment. Now I have to rest for a while.
