hi catcats I washed boycat in a mix of dawn dish detergent/hydrogen peroxide/baking soda. Diane you cannot smell skunk? Do you smell other stuff. (I fear I might smell a bit like skunk) he is not eating now though! I called vet and they said he might just be upset right now but to call first thing tomorrow if he does not eat. He is right outside now eating grass -- maybe it is an upset stomach? girl cat just had her toes trimmed by an inhome groomer. I said does my house smell like a skunk> she said a little bit...sob sob. I am spraying that nature de skunker, windows open, bowls of vinegar to get odors. I will continue to work at it. sigh. I am not that productive today. I am just so tired! did make lunch. took out recycling called in meter read had a meeting with work peep put dishes to soak sprayed deskunker : (

Hi scholar, ugh, head colds are no fun. I hope it doesn't spoil whatever you're packing to attend tomorrow!
Instead of a reading break I took the dog out to the yard. It's weird, it's warm and humid outside, but it somehow feels like fall anyway--just a different feeling in the air, and the deep blue of the sky that's showing in between the clouds. There were lots of bees outside, I have purple asters and white asters, and they are blooming profusely right now. They're also finding the little bits of other flowers still around--my two lavender plants, salvia, zinnias and the small number of fresh blooms still on the sunflower plant.

Bree, when I worked at an animal hospital about 10 years ago, I walked into the grooming room one day to find someone to give them a phone message. There were two people washing a dog in the tub, and a doctor standing alongside, and each of them was holding their head away from the dog with a very distasteful look on their face. I said "what's wrong"? One of them said "what do you think is wrong"! I said--I don't know? Then one of them said--that's not funny! I'm standing there looking confused and the doctor said--wait, do you not smell that? I said, smell what? He said that some people do not smell skunk smell! This was the first time I had ever heard of that, and since I had never encountered a skunk before I didn't know until I was over 50 years old that I couldn't smell skunks.
So of course, I went home and looked it up. It turns out there are people who can't smell certain other smells, too--it's called selective anosmia. If I'm remembering correctly about 1 in 1,000 people can't smell skunks. I wondered if the fact that I dislike the smell of flowers was somehow related to this, since it's so unusual--but I don't think it is, I think I'm just weird that way!
Oh, and apparently some animals (and humans) that are sprayed by skunks can get sick from the strong smell, so maybe that's what's going on with boycat?

Bree, maybe the smell is still in his nostrils somehow and he can't smell the food? Try putting a dab of soft food on the roof of his mouth and see if that helps him smell it.
One more list before dinner.

Diane wow I never heard of that condition!!
I just heated up some baby food and boycat only took about three bites - unusual. he was sprayed in the face or front I think maybe it is irritated...I will call vet in the morning unless he really eats tonight...
I had a lackluster workday but I think it was the best I could do!
after work ran two quick errands paid a bill hand mopped a good chunk of kitchen floor picked up puppy just did the dishes
I think my house is improving smell wise a tiny bit!! I sprayed that de skunker on my upholstered furniture.

Just about time for bed. I was going to try something new tonight and take the dog out the regular time but not go to bed right away, to see if she would fall asleep and not have her usual anxiety episode right at bedtime, but I'm so tired this evening that I don't really want to stay up. Maybe I'll go to the living room and read instead of getting into bed right away. I don't think she has the anxiety because I'm there, but I'm trying to think of anything to break the pattern she's gotten herself into lately.
Good night everyone, see you in the morning!
