I just saw this quote online:
Don't ever save anything for a special occasion -- being alive is the special occasion.
So true.

so true! like how you are using your stickers/stationary, Diane.
For me its usually about clothing. I have gotten out of the habit of wearing the most dressy thing appropriate for the day (vs. the least dressy thing) and I have to say I felt ready for anything when I did this.
Soon I hope to have a bit more order to my life. Just got the green light on a $25 file cabinet! we can pick it up tonight.

Scholar, you know how I feel about clothing, but if it makes you feel good to dress up, I think you should "dress to the nines"! Do people still say that??
Good night everyone, see you in the morning!

Good morning!
I slept about 6 hours last night. We have a couple more days of cool temps and occasional rain, I looked at the extended forecast and starting Saturday it will be hot for a whole week. Of course, hot now means between 80 and 82, which I would have been happy to see during July, but it will feel bad after a taste of lovely cool weather. The mosquitoes are still around, during last night's late visit to the yard I got 4 more bites!

Yesterday the plumber and a new apprentice were here to change the UV light in the water treatment system. It was a much more complicated and delicate procedure than I would have thought. Long story short he dropped the 3 foot glass tube that encases the light. LOUD cussing. I have never seen him angry before then. Having to order a new one, he can't be back before next Tuesday. In the meantime, he did a few things so we will have water but very little pressure.
His apprentice used to work in masonry so I asked his opinion on the retaining wall. He thinks the problem is roots from very large, sturdy bushes on the other side. Meaning the bushes will need to be pulled out (and the landscaper will need to be extremely careful not to damage drainage pipes all thru there), the split rail and chicken wire surrounding the wall (so nothing/no one falls into the deep stairwell) will need to be removed, the wall repaired (may involve getting a backhoe in to dig it out), then a new fence installed (that company sure is making a lot of money off this new customer), landscaping redone. I love my home and I love this land but the repairs on such an old place are really taking a toll.
Something interesting I've noticed. The more pain I have physically the more stress and the harder it is to deal with all the problems. When I have less pain it is much easier to be patient and more optimistic about life. This time last year I was in such severe daily pain it was impossible to deal with things without a lot of tears and extreme discouragement. I am so very grateful to be able to deal with things better now.
Oh, when the plumber had shut everything off to work on the water stuff we heard a lot of clicking noises coming from a box behind the furnaces. This guy is so nice!!!!! He checked the box for me, said it had something to do with the phones (I thought all that equipment was located in the attic; maybe I'm thinking of old house alarm stuff) and he got the phones lines fixed! So no more ghost phone ringing, no more blinking hold lights. That got all of us talking about horror movies which was a fun conversation.

Good morning danny! Oh oh, did I jinx things by saying your plumber visit would be simple? Sounds like a major project to fix your retaining wall. I have two small walls by my basement entrance, and they're starting to fall apart too. I don't think they should be too difficult, although they're probably going to have to be removed and rebuilt, they are not huge. It's good that the phone issue is fixed--I thought it was kind of cool the phone rang after all those years, but I'm quite sure it would freak me out if it was happening here. Especially late at night...
And you are right, pain is very distracting, when it's bad it takes all of your attention. I think the effects of chronic pain is not understood by those who don't have it.
The dog finally wanted to go out. This morning she is limping much more obviously, she always walks kind of stiff-legged with her arthritis but today she's really favoring one leg, but watching her at different times I'm not even sure which it is. She tripped going up the steps to come back inside and I had to lift her rear up so she could continue, which tells me I have to bring her harness out each time we go out and start helping her up the stairs. Her sleep has been better the last few days though, and she's in good spirits.
While outside I brought the cans back from the street, brought the rest of the table packing materials outside, filled up some houseplant watering bottles from the rain barrel, and inspected plants for seeds. Although it's still kind of misty and damp outside today so I will wait to collect anything more until things dry out. While looking at the zinnias I saw a lot of buds, so they are not done blooming even though many of the flowers have gone to seed. I still can't find any seeds on the sunflowers! I found two more zucchini under some leaves so, more zucchini processing today.

I'm making lunch now and I stopped to put some bird seed on the upper back porch. While out there I frequently just lean on the railing of the porch and look down to see if I can see anyone in the yard. Just now I saw a bunch of sparrows and two goldfinches in the back seed/berry area, two rabbits just sitting in the back part of the yard (haven't seen a rabbit in a while) and a squirrel that climbed over the fence, went over to the Mexican sunflower plant, and reached up to pull a dry flower off the plant to pull it apart looking for seeds. Wildlife central! Oh, and a bee on a zinnia blossom that was so big that I could see it from the second floor!
