This time the dog wanted to go out. When we came back in I saw that Walmart delivered my 2 40# bags of bird seed, but left them at the bottom of the front steps. So I had to carry them up the steps. Unfortunately I also needed a bag for the almost empty bin right away, so then I had to bring one back to the kitchen and empty it in the bin.
So now I'm eating lunch and resting my sore back.

Golden, that's funny that you mention a hand truck, I told my handyman that I wanted one and he sent me a link to a reasonably priced one, but I saw there was a slightly stronger version of it that held a little more weight, unfortunately they were out of stock. So I'm waiting to see if it comes back in stock soon--it is not the stair climbing kind though--they are really cool but I don't think I would need that kind often enough. I mainly wanted a small one just to get things from my front porch to my kitchen, or else, to move something heavy across the yard. I have occasionally ordered heavy things sent via truck where they leave the item at the bottom of the steps--that has only happened a couple of times at this house, usually all other delivery people bring the things up the stairs--and when the truck people leave something, it's really heavy.
I've been wanting a new air conditioner and could order it online, but my fear is that they would leave it at the bottom of the steps and I couldn't manage to bring it up--so if I get a new one I will have to ask my handyman to take me somewhere to get it. I'm not sure I could even pull the stair climbing kind up the stairs with that kind of weight on it.
I'm definitely going to get the simple kind, though, I've wanted one for a long time.

ugh....now I want a stair climbing hand truck!! Happy Friday everyone. It is a rainy dreary day here. Tomorrow our former exchange student is coming to visit. She lived with my parents and my sister in the early 1980's. They have kept in touch throughout the years. I am looking forward to the visit. No football game tonight - thank goodness because I probably would not have gone in the rain. It is tomorrow afternoon but I will be in the middle of a lovely visit. I might go out after work with aq co-worker. I have watched her "stumble" upwards in the hierarchy here at work. Most promotions here are pretty deserving - There are a couple that have somehow been promoted beyond their abilities. But she is nice and a single mom and the girls are with their dad tonight. I have to head up that way after work regardless - so might as well get dinner out of it! OK - I will continue to sip my pumpkin spice coffee - happy coffee day everyone - and get to work.......

Good morning ohblondie! Enjoy your social visits this weekend.
I got 7+ hours of sleep last night! Despite the dog having to go out at midnight. She is definitely calmer at the beginning of the night, so I was able to fall asleep early and that gave me a couple more hours.
I probably should have gone to Walmart today because weather wise, it looks like the next possible day isn't until next Friday or maybe Thursday. But I've been having so many various leg and back pains I wasn't sure I would be able to do the walk. It would have been a good day to go though, because it's foggy outside, I love to walk in the fog. I'm not out of anything yet, so I should be okay.
Tomorrow I have to go to the library, they moved the next plant cutting distribution up for some reason so I have to go pick it up tomorrow. This time it's a begonia, which I don't have great luck with, but I keep trying.
I hope everyone has a good Friday!

Yesterday I called to check on the furnace guy's arrival (after waiting almost 4 hours in their time frame) and was told he wasn't coming and had to reschedule for next week. Lots more but I don't want to get stressed writing it all out.
The masonry guy came early, the work involved with the collapsing retaining wall was just one thing. I need extensive work on 3 chimneys. the entire front stoop, which is very large, needs a lot of repairs. He suggested replacing some of the bricks with flagstone for reasons that made a lot of sense. He looked over the flagstone front walk and said it looks solid and good. That had been the one that was torn up for the oil tank replacement, reset, and needing parts to be redone many times since June 2022. I will do the retaining wall and chimneys now and wait on the front stoop.
I got the contract from the fence company. It was missing a couple things, needs to be rewritten. They do not do add-in's and scratch outs and initial what you don't want; they have to rewrite the whole thing. Haven't heard back from the handyman on his reschedule; that's been a week.
Today DD1 and I need to go the storage units and start emptying one out. It will be a long process and I hope to have it done by the end of October. Most of what is in there are books. The plan is donate or recycle. I want very few to come back to the house. There are also many banker's boxes of legal papers. Not sure how to handle those yet. I really don't want them. Boxes of household soft goods ~ bedding, outdoor cushions from our beach place, clothes of course.
The second storage unit has the contents of our beach place after we sold it. Mostly hard things, furniture, wall hangings, lamps. I was hoping to maybe use some of those again.
I think the time for downsizing is becoming more of a reality. I say that every so often and each time it becomes a little more real.

Good morning danny--how infuriating, they decide not to come and don't even bother to let you know! Wonderful that you're going to tackle a storage unit. Is it terrible that the first thing I thought of was...a storage unit full of books? LET ME IN THERE! Like I need more books. You are reminding me that I have not posted anything in the "death cleaning" thread, because I haven't done anything for it. You, it seems, are steadily working on it!
The dog still hasn't wanted to go out, but I gave her meds and food so she will probably want to go out soon.

Hi Diane, unfortunately that company has really gone downhill. No shows are not surprising. I used to get so very stressed about all the big corporation stuff that is out of my control. I'm trying to find other options. I have another company coming on Monday to give me a second opinion of all the furnace problems.
I am pretty ashamed of having two very large full storage units. As if my very large house wasn't enough. I also have boxes of books in the upper floor of the pool house. Cast-offs from a friend whose father was a military man and had floor to ceiling books on history. I was a fool to take those off her hands. But otherwise they were going to be hauled out by a big cleaner and probably trashed. Why did I think I needed to save them?
I heard an interesting term yesterday ~ a book dragon. Vs a simple book lover. A book dragon hoards all her treasures and guards them without always enjoying them. Although I did look it up and some people think the image of a dragon is a better image for a bookworm. Something about the eyeglasses looking better on a dignified dragon sitting atop of treasures always reading.
Whatever, we have too many. Leaving soon.
p.s. if you want some let me know ~ gardening, nature, history, good fiction

Oh, I definitely fit the definition of book dragon, for years I had so many books that I never looked at them or read them, just zealously guarded them. That's why I'm trying to go through and at least try reading some now. My favorite books on my main bookshelves--I guess there are some I never look at, but I often pass by and see a title, nonfiction, and say--oh yeah, that's a great book! And then I'll take it out and look through it. I still hoard too many of them, but I'm so much better than I used to be.
Ha ha, no, you'd better not start sending me books--and I feel bad saying this since you're trying to get rid of many of them, but the history collection sounds like something there would be interest in. Any time there's a serious collection of a particular subject book sellers want to see them, assuming they are in very good condition and that you have any book sellers in your area that sell that type of book. Which is not a reason to hold on to them forever, I should be encouraging you to get rid of them. Ugh. Books are so hard. I absolutely would have done the same thing, taken in the collection to make sure they didn't go in the garbage. Then what?

As I was emptying my parents house and putting photo's and things we need time to sort through into the storage unit - I ran into a couple in the neighboring storage unit. We struck up a conversation and they recognized my name (from the community things I am involved in). They are book sellers and they gave me their card and they offered to help me sell anything that might be worth selling. They will look through the massive stash and tell me what to donate and what to sell. We have donated quite a bit. That was an exciting meet!
I am enjoying a lovely lunch (stir fry vegetables and chicken)and I updated the estate attorneys and answered their lingering questions
Back to work - ugh
