Diane - my hesitation is likely fear. I dont have a retirement counselor other than the person at the retirement system telling me how much my pension will be when I retire. I had also hoped to have my parents home sold and other things settled prior to retiring. And if I retire then I will need to accomplish all of those things I said I could not do because I was working!
Got up on time and dressed quickly as my clothes were laid out. And I was still a little late for work! This is a sign from the universe!
I got socks and underwear washed and in the dryer last night. I will run another load tonight. I have a meeting tonight but I can get a load in after the meeting
Work from home tomorrow so I can possibly get another load done. I am working on the huge pile that my son left behind. Some came from when he cleaned out his car. He is putting all of his nice/good clothes in his dresser and closet. He has a spot designated for his work clothes so that they are easy to grab in the am.
OK - I had better get back to work.....

Hello everybody I am not good at organizing. My idea of organizing for instance is having an empty junk drawer with a pair of scissors, glass scraper for my glass stove and a lighter. So, not really organized, but I can see the items in there. Still working in the kitchen cleaning the small appliances. Probably have too many out taking up counter space.

ohblondie I know what you mean about retirement. I am not quite at the stage yet but I do know when I get at the stage when I can retire I will feel better as then I can pick and choose the best time for me and not worry that I will be impacted by the next round of layoffs as that would just mean severance. I think it would be hard to retire at the point unless something happened as I could work, earn money, yet have the retirement security blanket. I have seen a lot of books about retirement on amazon - one was what to do 5 years before you retire. If you have kindle unlimited (so some books are 0.00 to borrow), and you have time, then you might want to check out the more popular books with good ratings to at least get some ideas about things to get ready for and ask. I had to take a vacation day today as i had house issues and they needed me home to deal with some of it. I will be off and on the computer working remotely but it makes life (and accounting) easier if i just take a vacation day.

Kitty will make sure you remember
Oh wow, this is brilliant! And so, so true! Of course, kitty will be asking for treats at other times too so you'll have to figure out which ask is random and which is at pill time!
no need to hurry if you get it here by noon thats fine
Oh, I totally agree that she should have accounts, I think it's the facility's responsibility to enforce rules just like they would if she did anything else she wasn't allowed to do there. You're not able to enforce anything when you don't live there with her. It's a good lesson though, we should all work on our hoarding tendencies early, so that we don't still have them when and if we end up in a facility--then it won't be at our own pace and ability, it will be enforced.

Def, junk drawers are different--everyone's junk drawer has random things in it, that's the purpose of it!
Ohblondie, that's actually wonderful that you mention feeling responsible to do things after retirement. Everyone I know who has retired has spent the first little while not doing much just because they can, but then they start feeling very unmoored. The next step depends on what kind of person you are--people who don't have the desire to make things better in this world are the ones who suffer after retirement--because their job is their main "worth" and with it gone they don't have anything to do that makes them feel valued. They find their total worth in their job, money, having expensive possessions to brag about--so retirement just feels like their life is over and they're waiting to die. These are the people who go downhill quickly health wise. On the other hand, those who are always looking for ways to help people, or animals, or the earth, look at retirement as a chance to do all those things, and accomplishing those things are the best possible purpose in life. You are one of those people, so you will do well in retirement, although yes, you will want to spend some time just relaxing because that is the reward for doing all those years of work.

I just checked my deferred comp account. While it is not a lot of money, it is ok. And I will not touch it and just take the required minimal distribution every year. and it will be there in case of an emergency. we will eventually sell our home or our rental home. I will collect SS sooner rather than later as DH and I have health issues and wont live forever. And I have already approached people about PT jobs. And even though DH is on worker's comp benefits right now, he will hopefully be able to go back to work. He was making "bank" at his PT job.
I will only fill my gas tank monthly (or bimonthly) as I wont do much driving. I will be able to cook more. Any job I take will be within walking distance of the house or on a bus route or just a couple of miles from home.
Every meeting I have had today has pushed me over the edge....

Hi, Nice People !!
I didn't post yesterday, but knew I would right after I got home today. Diane---I thought of you this morning because you mentioned that you always feel stressed about a doctor's appointment and that was on my schedule too. And I always do too. I am so glad it is over and I am home, although it was just an ordinary appointment, not for something I am very worried about. It went OK. I am only moderately pleased with this Dr. She is OK, I guess, but I am not crazy about her. She is close to home, which is a plus. I finally got her to OK switching my BP meds for a trial to possibly help my swollen ankles. Also, about the organization thing. I am not a hoarder, but I have to be careful about cluttering. Much better than I used to be. I am pretty good at organizing too, so I think it is not necessarily connected to problems with clutter. Not sure about hoarding. I will add this---This board (and the preceding one) has changed me so much, in the way I keep house. I push myself much harder now to try for neatness because I am so much more aware of what it takes to have a nice home. I am not always successful, believe me, such as right now, my kitchen floor is not very clean at all. It has begged for attention , but something else always seems more important. I think that might be OK, for my age, but I never feel completely caught up. I guess my organization is OK, and my motivation too, but my cleaning leaves something to be desired. I am fussy about some things and too laid back about others !! Place needs vacuuming too !!!!!
This morning I did all the dailies and some laundry. Took a shower and kept that appointment. Came home and rebooted the wash, ate a snack lunch, and now I am resting and computering. Next up---Go up to attic and drag out Christmas decorations so that when Diane comes, they are out in the open.
Wishing calm and good health and productivity for everyone.

good afternoon everypony!
I am feeling better, though I say that every day, and every night I feel worse. I am so tired, but theoretically DVD's son is arriving today, and there is much to do. on the other hand, he is a bit of a germaphobe, so I might not even see him. I am out of quarantine tomorrow.!
I enjoy reading everypony's animal stories. DVD is playing a Christmas album with nature sounds and the kitty is confused--crawled up on my lap.

So ohblondie, have the meetings today pushed the retirement date a little closer??
I had to look up what "making bank" meant! Although I probably should have guessed it.
Catcats, not only do I also have stress over routine appointments, I also am not crazy about my doctor although at this point he's "okay" because he's resigned to the fact that I won't have all the tests he is constantly pushing and he doesn't mention them much anymore. He also is close to home, although the reason I chose him when I moved here is he was the only one that would take my poor quality health insurance that I had at the time. And now that I have Medicare and could choose someone else, I don't want to start all over again with a new doctor explaining that I do minimal medical stuff and it doesn't help to nag me to do more. Oh, and I also seem to always find things more important than cleaning!
Scholar, hopefully the antibiotic you're taking will kick in soon.
When I took the dog out I got to see one of the neighbors next door, she let their dogs out and the big one that I love saw me and starting barking and barking. He didn't sound friendly, but I know him now and know that what he wanted was for me to go pet him over the fence. The woman came out to see why he was barking but she saw that he was now quiet because I was petting him. I just love that dog. The neighbor let me know that their elderly pug died, so now they just have the two dogs. I have to say, since the weather got cold they do not leave them out long at all any more, so that's good.
Next:
Retrieve laundry from basement Check for mail and packages Bring garbage cans to the street 10 minutes on first floor

I took the dog out again, and picked up one more bucket full of plant stuff to put in the yard waste can which was already at the street--this is the last pickup of the year. I got the mail and got a notice about yet another breach of security, this one at the place that handles the information for the hospital I went to for tests. This is so annoying!
Now I'm going to make some frozen veggies and a sweet potato for dinner.

Diane, I very much agree with your thoughts on that book. I've always been great at organising, but I hold on to far far too much stuff that it is just impossible to organise.
Done: Handled mail (so much today!) Assembled half of my work colleague gift bags Stacked and ran dishwasher Decanted pills Achieved coffee table zero Achieved dining table zero
