I've always loved the stages of change, they have helped me a lot in the past and are still helping me when I think about my books.
I agree that termination is an odd word--and an odd concept. I know that we're trying to form habits and hopefully they'll become second nature, but I think even ingrained habits can be derailed by life circumstances. So we have to be vigilant even when we're well into maintenance. Maintenance is forever so it makes sense to have it be the last stage.

bumping this OLD thread forward ... Because the information is still very useful.
Read and re-read, it's always worth revisiting this information.
This thread was started in 2009. Some of the replies are very very old.
(Suggestion: Please don't reply to the older posts with advice, because some of the posters may have changed their lives, and might not wish to be prodded or reminded of their pasts.)

As I get ready to move, I find myself moving backwards. I was in maintenance, but as I have pulled things out, I have become paralysed and find myself more and more in contemplation. States change as our lives change. Once I get moved, I will probably return to maintenance.

This can be applied to so many things in life. Very much worth reading about The Transtheoretical Model and stages of change.

Thanks for referring to this thread in your recent posts, CourageouslyLion SeeksSerenity! I can't figure out if I'm in Preparation or Action. I take small actions to reduce my clutter, but can't say I usually have a plan. Maybe I'm in Action Lite, in which the "plan" is doing something every day, no matter how small, to reduce the clutter. I've ordered the Your Own Worst Enemy book from the library.
