Went to church with friend because they give clothes and toys there.
My daughter got four shirts and a dress along with a stuffed bunny and a stuffed ghost...she loves him and he's her favorite color purple...and I got five new books for her and foster child...baby books.
Daughter needed shirts because she is hitting puberty early so kids shirts are tight across her chest.
Out of money from paying for books, classes, printer ink and certification for doing taxes.
I got women's small so they fit better. She has been more comfortable in my tee shirts. I made sure they were colorful and youthful.
I got son a stuffed Pokemon for his bed.
They gave us spaghetti and sauce, peaches, canned pumpkin,Wheat Thins a family favorite.
I am trying to save money desperately because with Xmas coming I have to get kids something and it will come from food budget. I have to buy for four kids and three grandchildren plus something for Mom and her new husband.
I wouldn't let her get a bunch of stuff. I just had her trade books in at her school and had given away some books. My friend was literally shopping. I couldn't understand it because her car is stuffed with clothes for the whole family.
My friend's daughter got a bunny, a Lalaloopsy doll and picked out three shirts for her new little sister and a medal.
Everybody was happy.

lostchild it sounds like you got some very prudent and useful items at the Church. I'm happy for you and DD, glad she got some clothes to fit! I went through towns twice now in the last couple of days and did not go to any thrifts though I really was quite tempted. I realized that I was bored, a bit anxious, and feeling a bit off the hook of being home and facing all my responsibilities. I just kept telling myself, I don't need a thing, not a single thing. I kept a little picture in my head of all the STUFF i have crammed in here now and that helped. I did buy chicken feed, goat feed, and groceries for me. I had a funny sort of slip earlier this week when I was at work and a young man came in selling makeup kits. It was a four piece kit with a kit of lip colord, another with blusher and eye shadow, a bronzer, and a pack of makeup remover wipes. It was $20 and I bought it to give to my Mom as part of her Christmas present. Normally, I wouldn't succumb to an impulse purchase like that. I have also gotten her a book from her favorite series already too.

Last week in the new Neiman Marcus outlet I saw the perfect black cashmere gloves I've been longing for... excellent quality, $40 marked down from $70. But I had to wait a week until my payday today. I went back to the store tonight... gone. Stuck for another winter with my 9-year-old moth-eaten gloves full of so many mended holes that by now there's actually more darning thread than cashmere on each fingertip. I dragged around the store sniffling sadly... and then I saw them! On a high shelf that I could barely reach (why way up there??). YES! Still $40! Or so I thought... but when I took them to the cashier, she said, "Oh, these are on sale today for an extra 40 percent off." Final cost with tax: $26.10

I got 3 children classic books for free. I have already had two of them and I swapped them for the new ones as these were in better condition / better edition.

Yarn. Yup. A new brand of super cool multi colored yarn at Michaels that I'm pretty jazzed about. Already picked out a pattern and may cast on tomorrow. Have 2 WIP but who cares. Bought 4 packets of colored card stock in anticipation of Christmas scrapbook/photo book project with the niece and nephews. Need to get the photos uploaded and ordered. Went to Goodwill looking for barn work worthy turtlenecks but none to be found. Left empty handed. At Freddie's tempted but didn't buy a pair of shoes that were cute but a little tight in the toes. I find myself a little longer than a full size (11/43 EU) so it's been challenging to try to find new shoes. Did get milk, yogurt, Borax, and Rit dye to give a try at dyeing my off white flannel sheets with hard water discoloration. I got the golden yellow color.

I went to Bed Bath & Beyond today for grooming and laundry supplies, but I don't count those as "acquisitions". I also bought some dryer balls so I can wash and fluff my down pillows. Altogether $45 worth of stuff for only $29, after subtracting all my BB&B coupons. I love that place. Then I went to Nordstrom Rack... I haven't bought any nice clothes for myself since 2005. The following year, the Great Depression hit me like an avalanche, and my life completely tanked... lost my relationship, my career, my entire savings, and my home. I gained 45 pounds. During the next years of destitution, the only new clothes I bought were socks, underwear, T-shirts, sweat pants, and sneakers, thus putting the finishing touches on my Bag Lady persona. Two years ago, I started dropping the pounds, and now they're all gone. This year, inspired by so many of the wonderful posts on this forum, I've started making an effort to improve my daily appearance... I'm cautiously buying a few new clothes and accessories, and taking the time for makeup and hair every day. I've started getting nice compliments. So I want to carefully continue revamping my wardrobe bit by bit. A few days ago, I made a wish list for myself, including cashmere gloves (budget $40) and short boots (budget $100). I found the boots today. They will replace my beloved but dilapidated kid leather boots from 2005, worn literally to shreds... last year the kid leather suddenly started peeling like a bad sunburn. I was so sad. Today for 2 hours I combed Nordstrom Rack for size 8 short boots. Hundreds of pairs, most of them ridiculously festooned with bizarre hardware and wacky cut-outs. After an hour, I moved on to size 8.5... still nothin' but ugly. I gave up and exited down the 7.5 aisle and there they were... The Perfect Boots. But uh, I don't wear 7.5, except on the very rare chance that they run large by that maker. And these do! They are so comfortable and so beautiful. Made by Pour La Victoire, short black boots with short 2.5-inch heels. The cut and stitching are impeccable. I can't believe my luck. $110, marked down from $295. So I went $10 over budget, but then the gloves yesterday were $16 under budget, so I'm ok. Here they are: www.pourlavictoire.com/catalog/product/view/id/1621/s/fara/category/3/?color=31I tell, you, after these past years of making do with sad old baggy faded tattered clothes and down-at-heel shoes, it is so nice to buy a few select things to boost my appearance and my self-esteem again.

Mmmmmmm mmmmmmm, those are gorgeous boots! And the thrifty shopper in me is totally blown away by the great deal you got. Congrats!
I've acquired quite a few items in the past little while, for mostly the same reason - I also had the Bag Lady look going, with my chubby added weight forcing me out of my nice clothes. I've dropped some, still have a ways to go, but knew I had to get out of the sweats and yoga pants (ahh, nothing but ugly comfort here, ha) and into respectable items. If I get dressed in the morning, in something I like the look of, I'm more motivated to deal with everything. Being unemployed for a time, I ate for comfort - whoops, my chocolate consumption assured that my nice jeans wouldn't fit, and my financial state assured that I wouldn't get any new ones. Bad, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

I don't think I posted this - I bought a (modular) barn and two run-in sheds for the horses. 9 dump-truck loads of dirt for the floors/foundations. The barn will be installed starting on Thursday. But I did not buy a bulldozer, dtesposito, even though I was astounded at what all you can do with one, as I watched the men work yesterday, preparing for the barn installation. Honestly, with that bulldozer, he did more in 5 minutes than what DGS and I did, both working all afternoon. Clearly, having the right tools IS everything!

Today I bought 4 sheets of plexiglass for the sun room (apparently the store only gets 6 sheets at a time.) I bought 16 8' 1x4's, 4 tarps, several spools of rope, and some tacks.
I bought a warm-looking bathrobe and one piece pajamas for me, and some cozy-looking soft slippers for DD.

Daye you win hands down. I feel disappointed because I found green tea ice cream but it wasn't nearly as good as what we had this past summer. It was a light sorbet. This was creamy like vanilla and didn't have the same taste.
My daughter was happy I thought about her but disappointed at the taste. I also bought thinly sliced ribeye that I marinated in Korean barbeque sauce which has pureed peats and apples as part of the base. It was a good lunch over seasoned rice.

Your lunch sounds wonderful! I have never heard of green tea ice cream. I could envision it as a sorbet, but not as actual, creamy ice cream!

I bought a little rack to hook over the kitchen cabinet door under my sink ($5.99 at TJMaxx). I have a shelf down there with all my cleaners, but it's hard to bend down to rummage through them and I often end up knocking over the powdered Bar Keepers Friend cleanser and making a mess. Now the BKF is safely corraled in the door rack with the other most frequently used things. Much better.
