dayeanu..Oh Daye.....I wish you lived next door to me....... What you did for that woman was so kind....Karma will reflect nicely on you! Your chinese fortune cookie agrees with me!!! I need new capri's - but I have not had luck finding any. And it got so hot so fast that the local stores are wiped out. I usually get a cotton blend but they get so baggy so fast - I think i need a cotton blend with just a toouch of spandex to prevent the "baggies"! I admit - I am a lot like you and Lucie's dad. I keep thinking I just need to organize everything. Well, I took a good hard look at my room. My closet is organized....and full. And there are bins and piles of clothes everywhere. I dumped out a bin of summer clothes to look for a sun dress and a sweater. THere are cute clothes in there that I will never wear because they are too small. Now I need another weekend to sort thru the bins..... I was just thinking - I could get by on sundresses all summer long. They are long and comfortable (someone called them yoga pants for hte summer) but I realize that I do need capris' I need something with a waisteband to keep me somewhat on track....

Last week, I knocked the coffeemaker carafe into the sink. The liners were not in. Have not been in for couple months cuz they are clean and the sink is NOT. Long lag time between tasks. Sigh.
Next morning coffee was made pouring hot stove water thru filter lined funnel. Not success. Messy and weak. Flowed thru too fast I guess. It was the $10 walmart Rival, so no point buying universal replacement carafe cost -more than the new one. Got new $10 one. Worked two-three mornings. Then just would not brew.
Sun bought next model up $20. Also has timer. Also doesnt dribble when pouring.
Same trip bought 4 cup Pyrex measure cup. Have a 4c cup. Somewhere. Still packed. Well, its markings are not painted and it has a chip. Will donate when I find it.
O, had a $20 xmas gift card from landlord. Bought four $5 plastic lided bins. I have several shallow ones I use for my various quilts in process. These are twice as deep. So I can put projects that are farther along (more and bigger bits).

dayeanu, I know you feel bad about your shopping. I'm sorry. It was wonderfully kind of you to take that gift to your acquaintance though. I'm sure you made her day. Hi dear mouseanne. Glad the newest coffee maker is working out, finally. I hate when cheap appliance just don't last past a few uses. Hi cleanbee. That does look like a cool gadget! Hope it gets lots of use in your kitchen. ohblondie as you know I did a big clothing purge about a month ago now. Such a good feeling to have all the old stuff out that I couldn't wear anyway. I encourage you to do the same. You were working on nice outfits around that time too if I remember right. So you will get it all organized I am sure, an outfit at a time.

angela.........I did do a big purge last summer or fall. I emptied my closet an was ruthless. I also went through a wardrobe type piece of furniture where I keep a lot of my clothes and I weeded that out as well. As a matter of fact I just attacked the wardrobe type thing again. When I dealt with my summer clothes last year - I pulled out many that did not and would not fit. I kept several outfits that were on the cusp....I only had to lose 10 pounds and they would fit. Well - I did not lose 10 pounds - I think I gained 5 more! So I need to pull out the summer bins and go through them again. I will never wear cute shorts again. I will wear capri's or longer shorts. Time is the hard part now. THis is a busy time of year and I have a few committments that I cannot duck out of. I will carve out some time and attack!

I succumbed to the lure of the library bookshop again and made another excellent score. For $3 I got a lovely little edition of Charles Dickens's "Great Expectations" clothbound in burgundy with matching satin ribbon bookmark and gold edges all around.
I'm in the midst of "David Copperfield" in this same series and it is such a pleasure to read because it's such a pleasure to hold, just the right size for my small hands, and the cloth binding is luxuriously soft. I paid full price for DC, so what a treat to get GE for only $3, and did I mention it's brand new?
Here I am in my 60s and only just discovering the wonders of Dickens. I love coming upon words and phrases and characters that originated in his books and have become common currency in our language.

I have wanted to read the marie kondo book on magic of tidying up since I read about konmarie method on this board. I went to library for first time in months! This week and the book was there and I checked it out for three weeks. I can also renew for another three weeks if I need to. Free use of book plus I return it so it's out of the house after I am done!

UGH....stopped at "Sally's Boutique" saturday with my daughter. (Salvation Army). THis is a fun activity that she and her brother and I enjoy doing. THough I recognize this is my drug of choice and I have been good for such a long time. I found a desperately needed pair of more casual black pants. Lee Riders. A stretchy material that flattered my butt...as if anything can flatter my butt. I also got a pretty green shirt. Very lightweight - I would need to wear it over a tank or cami. I am trying to get away from yoga pants and tshirts on the weekend - Unless I am doing yardwork or cleaning. I need something casual yet still nice looking for evening and weekend activities. I am still looking for khakis and white pants. Well - I am wearing the "new to me" black pants today. THey are so amazingly comfortable and I think they are flattering. So many times when I buy "bigger" pants they get baggy quickly and I dont think that is flattering. THese have a touch of spandex or something stretchy that keeps them from getting baggy but they are not skin tight either. I think they are a Lee Riders brand so maybe I can find more in the store. I wore the pretty green shirt to youth group last week. I did not feel comfortable in it at all. I was constantly trying to adjust it it would not saty adjusted. It was a prety material and color but I did not feel comfortable so out it goes. I love when a needed purchase works out so well.......

papermoon I remember reading Charles Dickens in HS and found it dull. Probably because I was being "forced" to read it. One of my goals is to read the classics again but in a relaxed setting. I am hoping I get as much enjoyment out of them as you have been getting!

Hello everyone!
well i did $45 worth of acquiring this week. I went to an inspiring talk on native pollenators - the speaker (Eric Lee-Bader) was amazing. He is part of the Xerces Society; a great non-profit working with farmers, gardeners, just about everyone - on how to reintroduce plants that will attract our native bees. He also talks about habitat, nesting sites, and what is declining the populations (mainly, disease and pesticides/herbicides). So - I bought his two books. they are chock-full of good info and GREAT pictures of bees and butterflies - so now i can start I.D - ing my bees and plant even more yummy things for them. I love the books. some other books will have to go to fit these on the shelves, but these i will use because my longtime passion has been to plant flowers for bumblebees and butterflies!
i also got a 3/4 length sleeve top with my consignment credit - it fits me well (ie loose enough) and is so soft and comfortable (good cotton & spandex). the colors are so pretty (bright pink, red, black accents). two things give me pause, though. one is the boat neck... as an aging woman with wrinkly skin and a fat neck and broad shoulders, i don't think this is a good look on me. the other thing is that it is a big print - paisley - and i feel unattractive in anything except plain colors or my ethnic clothes which are nice and baggy. I have a sewing idea for next time i get to the mainland, on how to fix this top, but it would require visiting a JoAnn's store, because I need stretch lace, or a used clothing item made out of it that i can re-purpose. i would put the lace on the neckline to soften it a bit; and maybe some on the hemline to lengthen it and tie in with the neckline. If i actually DO this, i think i would love wearing it. for now, i can wear it under a jacket i guess. If i don't wear it in 6 months, OUT it goes. so few of my clothes are loose enough to fit comfortably. i hope this top works out.
i plan a closet purge very soon to hunt for more summer clothes to toss or consign. my figure is "muffin top" so no pants with a hard waistline work for me. i use exclusively elastic waist but - most have no decent pockets! i love pockets in my pants.

Was on my way to the store for OJ, and saw a garage sale sign. I turned down that street and found it. Gave myself a silent lecture not to buy anything I didn't really need. I bought a nice locking wooden 2-drawer file cabinet for $10 (I sold my metal one last summer and really miss it! ) Also bought a small sturdy basket to hold clutter on my kitchen counter, and a necklace. Total: $11.25

sue5000..So does that mean they are still available? I should check the tag but that would require me to take off my pants, or at least "drop trou". Can;t do that at work!! Good job with the garage sale. You needed the items and you got them at bargain prices! creativechaos... I am muffin top as well. I have to buy the waist pants that truly fit me - and not ones that require me to stand on my head to zip them up. With the cotton spandex pants I am wearing today - I have a waistband but no muffin top.

Yep, those Lee pants are awesome, glad you found some ohblondie and sue5000. I have two pair, black and brown that are barn pants now. Mine say Lee comfort waistband and indeed they are very comfortable! Sue I would have bought that file cabinet too..I love wood file cabinets and that is a good price. ohblondie, I do remember now that you did that big purge. I hope you find some capris that you enjoy. I have one pair in a nice teal blue that are more like long shorts I guess? They sit about 2 inches below my knees...that is as much leg as I will ever show, ever again. papermoon, I am so happy to read that you found such a lovely book, amazing price! I have not read any Dickens. I too would like to read the classics at some point. I think at my age, with more life experience now, I will have better comprehension and enjoyment of them. The year before he died, S read a bunch of Dickens, I remember him being particularly moved by David Copperfield. He said, I can't believe I didn't read this before now! joyinvirginia, I will be interested to hear your thoughts on the KonMari book. I'm glad you got it from the library. Well done. I sure wish I had access to a library, but alas, I would have to pay for any of the town libraries around here since I am in the unincorporated rural part of the county. I have paid the fee at times before when I was working in town. lucie, I hope those socks work for you. creativechaos. sounds like some workable purchases for you. I love the sound of those books. What a wonderful thing to hear to him speak about a subject that you have a passion for. Hope it was a real lift for you. _________________ I have worn the charcoal black pants I got last week twice now. Oh so comfortable, I am so glad I found them. They are the cotton/spandex jeans material but the cut is more like slacks with a nice tab closure and slightly flared leg. Some of my thrift store clothing acquisitions haven't been worn yet, I still need to hem those jeans I got from Old Navy two months ago? Jeez...well the fact is I'm a bit intimidated by the project. I will try to clear my head and dive in. Craft supply acquisitions update: I finished the crochet scarf made the recycled sari silk yarn. I am not uber-happy with the result. I won't ravel again. I think it would kill the yarn. So I've put it in the closet for now with the other scarves and I'll see if I wear it. If not, it's out with other donations. I did have fun crocheting again so that is okay. And I enjoyed the colors in the yarn. So I guess I got my money's worth of activity out of it. Always nice to have a cool finished product at the other end but not always necessary. Now it's on to the rolled hem scarves. I'm looking forward to some fine hand stitching. I used to be really good at embroidery and hand work and I'd like to revisit that skill.
