I bought some large plastic planters, and some potting soil. I'm going to attempt an experiment with some sprouted potatoes that I have. Great minds think alike Ally. I was looking at my sprouted potatoes this afternoon and thinking about planting them, but I don't have any room in the house and it's way too early for outside. A few weeks ago I watched a few youtube videos on this. One person had great success, another, not so much. We went to a "big lots" store last night, and they had the pots at a very reasonable price, and so I'm going to give it a go. The plan would be to move them outside in early May.

I went to the store to get dinner and thought I would grab 6/6.00 cans of CAMPBELL'S chunky soup. They were out of it so I got a rain check... yay. I guarantee the price but don't have to get it till the cabinet has more room!!

A new bath rug for only $9. It's a cotton rag rug, made in India, very lightweight, in variegated shades of blue. This one is machine washable since it's so light and floppy. It looks perfect on the bathroom floor, and it replaces a very imperfect rug that I bought a couple years ago. I spent a lot ($35, IIRC) on an Izod rug in solid French blue, which shows every tiny speck of lint and therefore it always looks awful. Kitty is pleased with the new rug too... she's in there now, rolling around on it and purring. I will shake out and vacuum the Izod rug and put it in the Free Box. 1 in/1 out. Also bought a $2 packet of red heart stickers for February's "don't break the chain" challenge on the wall calendar. Gonna give my home some much-needed luuuv.

I'm doing well with my minimalist shopping challenge. I did a 2 lbs bag of garlic the other day, What was I thinking? I gave some away at church, and read up on freezing garlic. I think I'll try a couple different methods of freezing and see which works best.
I have decided that as a reward for getting my kitchen clean and decluttered, (I'm almost there.) I will buy sliding shelves for my pantry cabinet. I've wanted to do this for the past 30 years (since we built the house). I've started to take measurements. Once the kitchen is clean and decluttered, I will place my order.

Another $1 in/$1 out, with the lottery today.
And I received a lovely book of my choosing, as a gift for one year of volunteer work.

Acquisition accountability: Finally used one of the new bowls I had bought over a month ago. They have just been sitting in their bag on the kitchen floor. I really love this bowl. The size, shape, and color are just right for my purposes. I've got to get the kitchen back in some kind of order soon so I can put some of these nice new acquisitions to proper use and proper storage. The little mixer I bought? Still in the box in the bag. At the larger local thrift, bought a cone of blue thread for a yarn spinning project. This store seems to attract craft supplies that are different and fairly useful to me. I also bought 2 spools of crochet thread, also for spinning projects, and one spool to add to my Still Life with String arrangement.

I ordered 9 sliding shelves for my pantry cabinet. This is something I have wanted to do for the past 30 years. I'm hoping that it puts an end to finding stuff way back in the back of the cabinet that disappeared into the darkness 10 years ago.
I may go out to buy a few things later today: Potting mix Liquid hand soap There was more, but I'm having a senior moment.

$25 at Whole Foods for a new set of 5 stainless-steel measuring cups... 1/8, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, and 1 cup. These match my new set of measuring spoons. I'm so pleased... they take up WAY less space in my gadget drawer than the bulky plastic Oxo cups. I'm keeping a couple of the Oxos, however... to measure bleach and vinegar for the laundry.

Accountability:
A couple of months ago I had bought a semi-finished bulky knitted scarf for a buck at Goodwill. I thought I wanted to finish knitting the scarf and didn't understand why someone didn't finish the last few inches. After closer examination, I found the flaw, very close to the beginning of the scarf. A stitch had been dropped, then stitched over on the next row so it was a completely unfixable flaw after so many rows had then been knit.
So I decided to start anew, found a pattern I like and am raveling the scarf, knitting as I go. I'm about half way done. The knitting it stupid simple and that's about all I can handle right now. I am glad to have a project going again after all this time, even something as basic as this.
_____________
Purchased more facial wipes at Grocery Outlet. I am all into these wipes right now. Instead of washing my face in the morning with water and cleanser I just use one of these cleansing, moisturizing wipes and 10 seconds later I'm done. They're super cheap and the ingredient list is tolerable.

I went out this afternoon and bought: 2 bags of potting mix. (They only had small bags.) Lot and lots of frozen veggies. I sometimes take these to work and eat them for lunch. Some fresh produce and some hummus.

Clothing acquisitions yesterday:
A dark brown wool coat, thank goodness, I've been looking and looking for a brown coat to replace my worn out corduroy brown coat. Dark brown pants to replace last year's brown pants, which will be downgraded to barn wear to replace the pair that wore so thin that the knees disintegrated. A large cotton square scarf with all the colors of my spring capsule wardrobe: the aqua ribbed wool cardigan, mustard colored t-shirt, denim blue linen blouse, cream colored turtlenecks, new-to-me brown pants.
I'll go through my closet soon to see what I can release and what I can integrate into this next season capsule wardrobe.

I just noticed that I seem to be the only one who posts how much things cost. I hope I'm not violating some thread rule?
Being a recovering compulsive shopaholic now on limited income, it helps for me to be accountable for how much I'm spending, and hopefully to keep me from overspending in one area while other things go neglected. For example, yesterday I was about to spend some $40 or so to get my dress watch repaired (new battery and strap). But then I stopped and realized I need that money to get my winter jacket dry-cleaned and replace all the shabby buttons, a need I've been neglecting for too long. I do have another functioning watch, but not another jacket. So that's where I'll redirect the money.
[ETA] The interesting thing I also realized yesterday is that I was going to spend that money on the watch because I was having a Bad Day. It would have been a quick fix in many ways. I used to self-medicate by spending/buying because it was such a quick and easy way to take my mind off my troubles by shopping... by believing that the things I bought would make me feel better.
And even though the watch surely does need repair, spending the money on it last night would have been the same type of fix that I often sought whenever I was having a troubling day.
Not sure if I'm explaining this very well, but anyway.... I caught myself plunging rather headlong into spending for the watch before I had given it the degree of careful thought that I'm trying to retrain myself to do. I had wanted to escape my apartment building, so I was running out to Macy's to get away. My neighbor was making huge noise again, refusing the desk clerk's warnings, and I couldn't stand it another minute, I gathered my things and dashed out. It had been a bad day on many levels. Then I caught myself when I felt that old familiar urge for an instant fix, and I pulled myself back, turned back home, and reconsidered about the best way to use those funds. Thankfully, the neighbor had quieted down by then.

I managed to not go shopping today, even though I wanted to very much. I didn't need anything but groceries, so I only went to the grocery store, no where else. I am trying to channel new flooring, as that is what I am saving for. My linoleum has holes and burnt spots and bare spots.
