Thanks sillycanuck and Arid. I am excited to go on this Garden Tour. This won't include interiors though, just the outside. But because the homes are so large, you cannot see any of these gardens from the street anyway, so that will be great. And since I no longer have a garden, it will give me all of the joy gardening did, without any of the work! Arid, that soup was great. I believe this is the recipe I used: www.gimmesomeoven.com/italian-orzo-spinach-soup-recipe/It's too hot for it now, but I need to remember this in the fall.

Today I worked mostly in the Work Along Thread. I got a good portion of my list done, but in the afternoon I got caught up in getting my cell phone messaging issues resolved, and then in the local news while I waited for a return call. So a few catch-up items didn't happen - or were they do ahead items? I planned to get them all caught up by the end of the weekend. So for today: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: - walk 2 miles did 1.7 miles - something else Abs Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Read Bible DAILY: Kitchen dishes, counter, stove top Make bed Bird care Bathroom swish and swipe Toss garbage WEEKLY: Bedroom - tidy - dust - vacuum Spare Room - tidy - dust - vacuum MONTHLY TASK (for the 17th) (if I have time (may wait until next month) Tidy/ reorganize linen closet Tidy/ reorganize broom closet Launder extra linens - put away CATCH UP PROCRASTINATED TASKS: Catch up dishes Put away remaining groceries Put away remaining laundry Pay bills Repot some plants DO AHEAD: Make something for lunch tomorrow. boiled eggs for egg salad sandwiches

hollyhock: Thanks so much for that recipe! It looks delicious!! I don't have fire-roasted tomatoes, though. I'll just use the "regular" kind . . . I don't have whole-wheat orzo, either--just the "plain" kind. Otherwise, I'm "good to go" on this recipe!! I'll likely make it SOON (the outdoor temperatures notwithstanding! !!) Thanks again. Arid

I decided to join the Weekly Challenge thread that dtesposito started. This sort of challenge seems to work well for me - motivates me, keeps me focused, and I end up getting a lot done. Thinking about it, I realized that it also blended well with 'zone work' - deep cleaning. I had initially made myself a list of chores, labelled 1-31, of tasks to do monthly, 1 task per day. The problem is that if I missed 1 day, then I either had an overdue, or it had to wait until next month - and these tasks can build up quickly if not addressed. Plus they didn't focus on the deeper cleaning chores, or sorting. So, I have now decided to go back to where I can focus on an area, or room, for a week, and just do what needs the most attention there, knowing I will return to it in another month. So my weekly challenge will match my zone tasks. Now having said that, I will now go a bit out of my planned order, because right now working with my plants and balcony needs my attention most. Purchased plants in too small pots requiring constant watering needs attention now. So that will be my focus this week - cleaning up the balcony and replanting some plants. Having decided that, instead of sitting here thinking about my lists, I got up and started on wiping down some of the balcony railings, before it got too hot out there to do anything. So now the right side of my balcony railings are all wiped down. So for today's plans: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: - walk 2 miles - something else? Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Read Bible DAILY: Kitchen dishes, counter, stove top Make bed Bird care Bathroom swish and swipe Toss garbage SUNDAY TASKS: Mega Tidy through Clean out fridge Toss garbage Plan week THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE AREA: BALCONY: Wipe down railings: - left side - right side Find zip ties Hang netting on balcony ends airing out Repot: - 2 strawberries - 2 morning glories - 3 tomatoes - 1 zucchini - 8 sunshine impatiens - 4 magenta geraniums Does large basket of impatiens need repotting? Deadhead plants Cut back 7 pots of pink and white geraniums Sweep - left side - right side Wash patio furniture frames Bring up remaining patio cushions from locker Fertilize all pots CATCH UP PROCRASTINATED TASKS: Pay bills ********************************* I had a very quiet day today. Some times I take Sundays off from exercising - and today was one of those days. It was hot, humid, and I was just too tired from being out yesterday. To be resumed tomorrow.

Despite having a very quiet day yesterday, my place does not look too bad. But.... if I did not keep up on maintenance, then it would get ahead of me. Today I work on the weekly kitchen and entrance stuff. Plus still on the project this week of the balcony. I will probably leave working on that until it is cooler this evening, or it gets cooler over the next few days. So for today's plans: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: - walk 2 miles - something else? It looks like the oppressive heat we have had for the last several day is gone! The temps are going to be about 10 degrees lower, for a few days. I have kind of been waiting for this to get really going on my repotting and balcony cleaning. Today SHOULD be Dusting day - but I am going to delay it until tonight or tomorrow - in order to get these poor plants into better containers. They all got good waterings last PM. The bird cage also needs a good cleaning. And I have a large floor fan that I should clean. And I really HAVE to pay those bills today! So for today's plans: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: - walk 2 miles - something else? abs Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Read Bible DAILY: Catch up dishes Wipe down kitchen counters, sink, stove top Make bed Bird care Bathroom swish and swipe Toss garbage TUESDAY TASKS: Dust through: - living room - dining room - hall - bedroom - spare/ bird room Clean bird cage Wash bird dishes Vac bird room Scrub bathtub ADD: Take apart large floor fan and wash grills and blades OVERDUE: Plants - deadhead and turn them THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE AREA: BALCONY: Wipe down railings: - left side - right side Find zip ties Hang netting on balcony ends Repot: - 2 strawberries - 2 morning glories - 3 tomatoes - 1 zucchini - 8 sunshine impatiens - 4 magenta geraniums Does large basket of impatiens need repotting? Good Wednesday morning. I'm not sure what today will bring. Most Wednesdays (lately) I have done groceries and errands. Through experience I found it to be the worst day for the laundry room to be free, so I plan my week around that. Thursday is my usual laundry day. Recently I changed to not eating meat. And of course when I did I tended to go overboard on buying other things, until I knew how this was going to work out for me. Unfortunately I bought more than I could use - but also stocked up on several other things. Especially if they were on sale. So, in the grocery department I don't really need much of anything. If I go to the store I get lured into buying things that I don't need, so I think today I will stay home, and if I HAVE to go to the store I could go Friday or Saturday. I would say I am about 75% done my balcony. We are supposed to be staying in the 'cooler' temps (in the 70's) until Saturday - so it would be a good time to finish it up. I still need to clean the right side railings, put up netting at the end, and pot up 1 strawberry and some morning glories when that is up. Then sweep that end of the balcony, and rearrange the furniture and wash down the frames and bring up the remaining cushions from my locker. My old geraniums would still need cutting back, and everything would need a good watering with fertilizer, but that's it. I do have a pot of sunshine impatiens, it was sold as a hanging basket but I have just sat that pot in an empty urn. It seems to wilt fast, so I don't know if I should repot it up or not, but I am currently out of soil. I can't think that the urn would give it more soil that the pot it is in does. Maybe it just needs daily watering. Any balcony work will happen in the afternoon, when it is shaded. Last PM I only got the bird room dusted, so I still need to do that in the rest of the apartment. And maybe I will vacuum through, which would normally be Friday's task, in case I need to go out that day. For today's list I will only post the undone things left on the balcony. Today's plans: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: - walk 2 miles - almost 1.7 miles/ 40 minutes outside - something else? Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Read Bible DAILY: Catch up dishes Wipe down kitchen counters, sink, stove top Make bed Bird care Bathroom swish and swipe Toss garbage WEDNESDAY's TASKS: Clear outdated items from fridge Meal plan Groceries? Errands? LEFTOVER: Dust through: - living room - dining room - hall - bedroom Wash bird dishes Scrub bathtub DO AHEAD? (Friday's task) Vac through: - living room - dining room - kitchen - hall - bedroom - spare/ bird room (again) - bathroom ADD: Put back together large floor fan THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE AREA: BALCONY: Wipe down railings: - right side Hang netting on right balcony end Repot: - 1 strawberry plant - 1 pot of morning glories Does large basket of impatiens need repotting? Deadhead older pots of geraniums Cut back 7 pots of pink and white geraniums Sweep right side of balcony Wash patio furniture frames Bring up remaining patio cushions from locker Fertilize all pots No but got all of the pots watered well.

Good Thursday morning. The balcony and plants are now almost completed! Yay! It's good to have that out of the way. The apt has stayed pretty warm inside - it actually was cooler outside. I'm also trying to keep up on the weekly stuff, and as usual thoughts keep popping into my head, always trying to make the process better. Often I keep revisiting the same thoughts of routines, but yesterday my thoughts were to change them up a bit. Again. Some times we get stuck in a routine that might not always be the best. That is sort of what is happening here with my weekly plan. I had found that I thought the best days for laundry here were Tuesdays and Thursdays. But if I did some Thursday, I often didn't have enough to do the next Tues, but by the time Thursday came around I did have enough. And some times for 4 loads. Since there are only 7 washers for about 150 apts, I don't like taking up more than 2 at a time, but also I can't really carry more than 2 up or down at a time anyway. So if laundry was done all at once, as in 1 day, it just felt like I was constantly in and out and up and down, and had a timer going all day long. However I have also discovered that mornings are pretty quiet down there too. So my thoughts from yesterday were to do clothing laundry on Thursday - and then on Friday, get up, strip my bed and get the linens done. So I am trying that this week. I have also thought about switching around grocery days etc too. That is another day that tires me out. I don't mind getting groceries and doing errands - it's the getting everything back up to the apt when I am done - usually 4 trips, maybe more. And then once I get them all up here, then I often don't have the energy to put them away. Same with laundry. And it's my 'putting away' tasks that are always hanging over my head. So I need to break up these tasks. And also they sometimes hamper my plans to exercise, which I know now I need to do since it is helping me get stronger, plus lose a bit of weight. So today is the day to launder clothes. I usually make that my paperwork day too. My bills got paid earlier in the week, but I need to update my Quicken etc. And I could also work on paper sorting. I need to cook ahead a meal too. Today's plans: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: - walk 2 miles - something else? Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Read Bible DAILY: Catch up dishes Wipe down kitchen counters, sink, stove top Make bed Bird care Bathroom swish and swipe Toss garbage THURSDAY's TASKS: Laundry - clothes - sort - wash - dry - put away Paperwork - update Quicken - update Budget book with expenses - sort some papers? Clean bird cage Vac bird room LEFTOVER: Wash bird dishes COOK something DO AHEAD? Or BEHIND - re routine change Vac through: - living room - dining room - kitchen - hall - bedroom - spare/ bird room - bathroom THINK ABOUT: Walking to the market - as my exercise too THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE AREA: BALCONY: Does large basket of impatiens need repotting? Deadhead older pots of geraniums Cut back 7 pots of pink and white geraniums Bring up remaining patio cushions from locker Fertilize all pots (Maybe on the weekend) ADD: Toss plant garbage (box and plant tray) into dumpster in garage Take compost down to bins Figure out what to do with emptied pots ************************** I did not get a lot of my planned tasks done. Instead, I had a couple of errands hanging over my head, so I decided to do those, and groceries, instead. By the time I got things upstairs, I was pretty achy, so no exercising got done by me. And nothing else got done in the apartment.

Happy Friday! Looks like it will be another glorious day today. It was almost cool out over night. Because I added in groceries and errands yesterday, well, firstly, I won't have to do them today. But the downside is that nothing got done in my apartment. Although it's not bad by any means, pretty much every room needs some attention. So that is my goal today. I need to change my sheets, wash linens and then tidy and vacuum through. My kitchen is the worst, with dishes needing doing. Also, since I did not exercise yesterday - too sore by the time I got my purchases all upstairs, it's a big priority today. I also need to cook ahead, so I don't need to do any over the weekend. Today's plans: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: - walk 2 miles to YouTube - something else? Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Read Bible DAILY: Catch up dishes Wipe down kitchen counters, sink, stove top Make bed fresh sheets Bird care Bathroom swish and swipe Toss garbage FRIDAY's TASKS: Laundry - linens - strip bed - gather laundry - wash - dry - put away or sheets back on bed Bathroom - vacuum - scrub sink - scrub tub - scrub toilet - wash floor - put out fresh towels - restock LEFTOVER: Clean bird cage Wash bird dishes COOK something - make rice CATCH UP ON THE HOUSE: Kitchen - catch up dishes - tidy - vac LR/ DR/ Entrance - tidy - purchases away - vac Bedroom - put away rest of laundry - change sheets - tidy - vac Hall - tidy - vac Bird Room - tidy - quick dust - vac THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE AREA: BALCONY: Does large basket of impatiens need repotting? Today is Finish Up day - finish up the things I did not get to yesterday. After getting my laundry done, and then dealing with bringing up the patio cushions from my locker - which lead to me having to empty and re-organize my locker in order to reach them, I was rather tired. Despite that, I did not want to put off my exercising, so I did 2 sessions of 1 mile each. They don't take a lot of time - but recovering from them does - . I got the vacuuming done through the front of the apt, but not the back - so that is today's task - clean the back. I may need to go out for a walk today. I have various commitments coming up in the next 2 weeks, and 1 involves something I need to purchase at the market. I don't know yet when I need it, probably weather dependent - but the market is only open a few days a week. But now that I think of it, I will also see how today's temps are. Maybe I will go down early. (I walk there, so that is part of today's exercise.) Anyway, today's list is just the dailies, and what I didn't do yesterday: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: - walk 2 miles - something else? Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Read Bible DAILY: Catch up dishes Wipe down kitchen counters, sink, stove top Make bed Bird care Bathroom swish and swipe Toss garbage TODAY's TASKS: Laundry - put away the rest Bathroom - vacuum - scrub sink - scrub tub - scrub toilet - wash floor - restock LEFTOVER: Clean bird cage Wash bird dishes COOK something - make rice? Good morning. I did not sleep well, up too early, so may need a nap later today. I like Sundays to be quiet days. I mostly try to do a MEGA tidy - meaning getting all of the extras out of each room, finish any tasks, clear out the fridge, and get out all of the garbage. Also I am invited over to ds' house for the afternoon, to visit them and sweet grandson, who turns 9 months this week. I have almost finished this week's challenge, re repotting plants and cleaning up my balcony. Just need to deadhead some plants, and start fertilizing them - things that will need to work into a routine. But it looks so good! Oh, Sunday is also a day to work on tidying my balcony. Earlier this week I decided to tackle deep cleaning, and related projects, to doing a room a month, cycling through each room 3 times a year. The balcony project though took precedence - and was started before I made the other plans. The room for June is really the bird's room. Not much time left to do too much, but I do have a plan to re-organize some totes, and the closet a bit, so that should take me through until the end of the month. So plans for Today: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: - walk 2 miles indoors, DVD - something else? Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Read Bible DAILY: Catch up dishes Wipe down kitchen counters, sink, stove top Make bed Bird care Bathroom swish and swipe Toss garbage SUNDAY's TASKS: MEGA Tidy - kitchen - entrance and hall - LR/ DR - bedroom - bird room - bathroom Clean out fridge Collect all garbage and toss Take compost down to bin off side street Balcony - deadhead plants (to compost bin) - fertilize plants LEFTOVER: Bathroom - scrub sink - scrub tub - scrub toilet - restock Wash bird dishes COOK something - make rice? - put together casserole NEW CHALLENGE FOR WEEK: BIRD ROOM - go through extra boxes in corner - toss or take to locker if needed to keep a bit longer (mainly printer) - find totes with taxes in accordion files in them (2) - remove old VCR tapes from closet shelf - put accordion files with taxes on shelf - move tapes to same totes - start discarding tapes - shred papers needing shredding - put any manuals from boxes into manual tote LEFT OVER FROM LAST WEEK'S CHALLENGE: BALCONY: Does large basket of impatiens need repotting? (Needs more soil) Cut back 7 pots of pink and white geraniums? Root them?

I slept in today, after 6 AM - later than usual. But I feel good. The apt is already hot. Today is clean the kitchen and DR day. I am always at a loss on whether to put the DR with the kitchen, or with the LR. I'm trying to put common areas together for both my weekly cleaning and my deep-cleaning. Since the DR uses the same items as the kitchen (ie dishes) I am putting them together. Also, I can vac the kitchen and DR from the same plug - to reach the LR, I use the same plug but have to come around from the other direction to reach everything. Plus I often chop and mix on the DR table, when I cook, because it's a better height for me, so the DR often has messes the same time as the kitchen. So that is today's area. Because I finished cooking up a 'casserole' yesterday, made from things already cooked or steamed, etc - I used a wide assortment of pots and pans and gadgets, all of which need cleaning now. Too tired last PM. So that will be the first part of the tasks for today. My friend B is coming over tomorrow AM. She often has to come downtown to do things, so now when she does, we decided to get together. I usually walk to meet her and we come back here - or go do something. She often comes about 11, but lets me know when she is on the bus down (a 10 or 15 minute trip). Last month she texted me at 9:30 that she was on the bus down (as in an hour earlier than normal)- and I was still tidying up and hadn't even showered yet. Yikes. She thinks tomorrow she'll be down around 10, so I will be ready this time. (She has to work at 3, I usually drive her home or wherever.) So, it would be nice if I could get tomorrow's work on the LR done today as well. And maybe cook up something for us to eat. So plans for Today: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: - walk 2 miles only did 1 mile - it's been super-hot and I didn't get to exercising until 10PM, so my compromise was 1 mile - something else? ab exercises Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Read Bible DAILY: Catch up dishes - sink loads 1 2 3 4 ? Wipe down kitchen counters, sink, stove top Make bed Bird care Bathroom swish and swipe Toss garbage MONDAY's TASKS: KITCHEN, DINING ROOM Tidy kitchen - catch up all dishes, pots and pans, cutting boards, etc - put away all dishes - put away any other out of place items Tidy DR Empty stick vac Change table cloth Scrub kitchen sink, counters, stove Wipe down small appliances Dust DR, kitchen Clean area (2 bins) under kitchen sink (need done for Wed) Vac DR, kitchen Mop kitchen Clean bird cage DO AHEAD (maybe) TUESDAY'S TASKS: LIVING ROOM, ENTRANCE, BALCONY Tidy entrance, LR Dust entrance, LR Vac LR couch Change decorative pillow covers Vac LR Vac entrance Mop entrance Tidy balcony OVERDUE: Water (fertilize) plants Wash bird dishes and some perches and toys LATER IN WEEK: Take compost down to bin off side street COOK something - make egg muffins? NEW CHALLENGE FOR WEEK: BIRD ROOM - go through extra boxes in corner - toss or take to locker if needed to keep a bit longer (mainly printer box and new fan box) 3 boxes to locker, 2 tossed - find totes with taxes in accordion files in them (2) - remove old VCR tapes from closet shelf - put accordion files with taxes on shelf - move tapes to same totes - start discarding tapes - shred papers needing shredding - put any manuals from boxes into manual tote LEFT OVER FROM LAST WEEK'S CHALLENGE: BALCONY: Does large basket of impatiens need repotting? (Needs more soil) Cut back 7 pots of pink and white geraniums? Root them? *********************** It's now after 11 Mon PM. I got most of the stuff on my list done. I made the egg muffins, however that created another mess of dishes, plus I have been emptying, eating up from others, so my kitchen is bad for dirty dishes again!!!! I also haven't mopped the kitchen or entrance floors yet. Once I was done cooking, I watered my plants as best I could, because it was getting fairly dark out. And then I chose to get in some exercising. So I may, or may not get these chores done before my friend comes by tomorrow AM. But I am happy with what I did get done. At least tomorrow (and tonight) are supposed to be cooler.

Thank you Arid - it helped. I got quite a bit done yesterday. I just need to finish up leftovers some time today. Mostly dishes. Good Wednesday morning. I don't know what today will bring. Normally I do groceries and errands on Wednesdays. But this week I kind of thought I might want to go out of town today - so I did my groceries and errands yesterday after I dropped B off, after our visit. When I say go out of town, I really mean to run out to the cemetery where my parents, plus many relatives (13?), are buried. It's an hour away. I usually go out about 4 times a year, and I change the saddle on my parents' headstone each time. This time it's between Father's Day, and my dad's birthday would have been July 5, plus it occurred to me that it's also so close to Canada Day, July 1, and my dad was in WWII. So I thought it might be good to get out by Canada Day, and last week I purchased a new headstone saddle in just red and white. Also with the drop in temp, driving would be more comfortable. So I wanted to do that this week - and figured Wed might be a good day. However, I woke up this AM with a sore back, so I will see how that goes. After trying to consistently exercise the past 2 months, I have observed a pattern where I find my back begins to hurt, from either going up hills (lots of inclines around here), walking too far (over 2 miles), or walking on paved streets. (Twice I went hiking for more than 2 miles, and I was fine, until I hit hills.) The paved streets is also related to my retail job where I could not stand there more than 2 hours without bad back and leg pain, and in 1 store I have trouble doing simple browsing for an hour without pain. So right now I am going to stop pushing myself in trying to go further than 2 miles, every day, and allow myself the odd rest day. Yesterday I did not exercise, because I hurt too much by the time I got groceries in. Strangely, yesterday I also received a phone call from my super. They never call. She asked me 'How do you like your parking spot?' It was odd - because I have never spoken to them about my parking spot, but it has been on my mind for over a year. My spot is fine, but it's in the lower parking garage. Once I come in the building from the garage, I have 7 or 8 steeper than normal steps to bring my stuff up, to the elevator in the basement. Those steps really kill me - and if I have to bring up 3 or 4 loads of stuff, well after 2 I have to take a break and do the remainder later or next day. So I had been thinking about asking if I could possibly move to the upper garage, where I would bring my stuff down regular sized steps. But I thought maybe I was just being a wimp and so I never said anything. Anyway - that was why she called me! 2 places had come available in the upper garage! and she wondered if I was interested. I told her how the stairs bothered me, and she said 'I know'. Wow - I'm impressed because I have only mentioned to friends and family that I might want to change garages. I am to tell her today which spot I want - and I can probably have it today or tomorrow! Not having to tackle those stairs might be all of the help I need, if it is causing me back strain every time I use them. Plus they hurt my knees too. My back feels like we're expecting rain - but there isn't any in the forecast until Friday. I don't want to drive out to the cemetery in the rain - so I will see how today goes, or fit it in tomorrow. So, there are just a few things I need to catch up on today. And maybe I can work on my challenge for this week - (if the bending doesn't affect my back too much) So plans are: ME: Weigh and record Exercise: - walk 2 miles - something else? Shower, dress, makeup Log meals into MyFitnessPal Read Bible DAILY: Catch up dishes Wipe down kitchen counters, sink, stove top Make bed Bird care Bathroom swish and swipe Toss garbage WEDNESDAY'S TASKS: GROCERIES: - put away remainder - bring up last load from car Clean bird cage Vac bird room Water plants EXTRA: - tell super which new spot I want in upper garage - move car? - hand in request for repair to dripping kitchen faucet and it's fixed - go out to cemetery - 1 hour each way, take new saddle, and bouquet of red carnations for my dad LEFTOVER: KITCHEN, DINING ROOM Clean area (2 small baskets) under kitchen sink (need done for Wed) LAUNDRY - CLOTHES (for Thursday now) Do a load of brights - wash - dry - put away LATER IN WEEK: Take compost down to bin off side street Same with Recycling (after Tues, when the bins get emptied) NEW CHALLENGE FOR WEEK: BIRD ROOM - find totes with taxes in accordion files in them (2) - remove old VCR tapes from closet shelf - put accordion files with taxes on shelf - move tapes to same totes - start discarding tapes - shred papers needing shredding - put any manuals from boxes into manual tote LEFT OVER FROM LAST WEEK'S CHALLENGE: BALCONY: Does large basket of impatiens need repotting?
