Thank you so much for bumpimg this thread.
This resonates for me in so many ways. After reading the first 3 pages, I went to my room and looked at some of the beautiful clothes that survived my regular purges, and yet I have never or seldom worn.
They are beautiful. They do not fit me. There is no reason to believe they will fit me in the foreseable future. This is the TRUTH. And to change my life, I need to commit to the truth. Not to my wishes and magical fantasies. To the truth, in its beauty and toughness and integrity.
10 lovely items now in the charity bag, and may the person who receives them wear them in health and happiness, bless them.
Thank you all.

Thanks for bumping this to my attention! I am going to re-read this and keep re-reading this until it sticks.
I sent the article on Scanners to my sons and my oldest liked it!
Take care.

Aaaugh. I got a Crate & Barrel catalog today. How much do I LOVE Crate and Barrel? This much.
I am reading here to dissuade myself from actually ordering any of the hundred things I would love to send for right now.
No No No
Where's that NO thread again???

Moggyfan, I know what you mean. I got my Crate and Barrel catalog too (and CB2 and West Elm!). Funny thing, though– I am not tempted to order anything via the catalog or internet. But if I went into the store and actually held the item, well then I would have a very hard time indeed.

Moggyfan, maybe you are in maintenence, but I have a new rule in my house - until I am in maintenence, ALL catalogues go directly into the recycling bin without being looked at. I cannot bring ANYTHING into my house that I don't absolutely NEED. If there is something I NEED, I can go internet shopping for it - I have my favorite websites saved on my computer and otherwise I can google it. Really saves me from any temptation. It is hard, I love looking at gardening catalogues, but I am not buying plants this year either, until my yard is desqualored and I have prepared a place for the plant....

Sunshine - your revelations about your clothing resonates strongly with me too! Even though I have finally bagged 3 bags of clothing for donation, I still kept 1 bag of those clothes you talk about - they don't fit me or they don't fit my lifestyle. I felt good about the 3 bags I am able to let go - now I just need to get them out the door!

Hi Moonglow, Yes, I am in maintenance--"0" degrees in every room almost all the time.
But EVEN SO, I still have to STOP MYSELF from buying all this cool stuff that I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO USE even if I live till 100!
I don't NEED any of it; I just WANT it. Grrrrr.
I do toss most catalogs, but Crate & Barrel, Williams Sonoma, and a few others sing to me. I have to force myself to wait a week and almost all the time that's enough to reduce the WANT enough so that I usually don't end up buying the stuff.
But stillll....it's all so PRETTY!!!

Moonglow, this is exactly my goal! The part about the gardening catalogs and plants really hitme where it hurts, too. But you are so right!

There's one thought that really helps me when I am tempted to splurge on home accessories. All those gorgeous houses featured on shelter blogs & magazines & catalogs are clean. None of the items on display would look half as nice in a pile of paper or trash, or stuffed in a bin. Therefore, cleanliness itself is THE number one most important "accessory" for a home.

I don't have a bunch of clothes around I hope to fit in some day. I do have a few that I don't wear, but I think could be useful if I am invited to a wedding or similar event. I now see that I did buy yarn and fabric for projects I didn't have time to finish, when I had multiple unstarted/unfinished projects at home already. So in that way it does apply.
