Emptied four bins today (was really five but i used one, so its not empty anymore). Lost track of the empty boxes. All the empty boxes are flattened and neatly stashed away.

Unswamping that 5th bin actually counts twice! It counts once because it was emptied. Then, you cleaned it out, and put a fresh group of things in there. And perhaps this may even be their new permanent home. Or it may be the rough sorted items which needed a smaller temporary home as in not in 5 boxes but in 1. Or.... So yay Unswampy emptied 5 bins and filled one back up!!!! And outstanding on all those bags being released. WOW that is big. That alone took courage to do that. I have a very hard time with taking those there because I "need" them for trash and stuff. I really liked what you said that plastic bags are not homes for things. Sometimes though they can make a nice temporary home for things. But even then I should find a better way to do that. Because it does kind of look tacky. I am thinking about knitting, and carrying a knitting project.

@vyaspigeon, what popped into mind as I just read your post about plastic bags not being homes for things-- plastic bags must be like "tents". OK to camp in once in a while for a short time, but who would want to live in one?
I live in an area with moderate temps year round so some homeless people actually do live in tents in the bushes or woods.
So there you have it--anything living in a plastic bag is actually homeless and is being forced to live in its "tent" until we relocate it into a better, real home!
For me, that is a useful image to keep in my mind as I work on The Mess I have!

Sorted though one large bin of stuff yesterday and while the contents are now just stacked on top of another bin, i did do the difficult work of locating the battery compartment and removing the batteries. Getting that tote of stuff de-Batteried was a Big job.

Took the pile of stuff i took the batteries out of, plus 2 bins and a box. Took everything out and sorted it. I deduped (triciplcate/quadruplecate) all the items. The keepers got put away. The rest got put in a bin to sell. So net count im down two bins and a pile (former bin).

I found two small boxes in the bedroom that I am doing a rough sorting on. They are both small.
I did the rough sort on the first box, a nice decorative box, and tossed most of the contents. I even found two good books I had put in there. Those will go on the shelf. I did find a couple small things to donate.
On to the second small box - a decorative "gift box" that I got from Tervis Tumbler when I ordered the tumblers - custom with V's mom's dogs on there to take to her as a hostess gift.
Second box completely emptied - most items either tossed or put away. There were 3 that were put into the decorative box, to be decided on later.
