Thank you ohblondie!
I just went downstairs to check on the dog, she is fine. I also brought my 2020 tax return upstairs in preparation for...another scary call.
Next:
Call senior benefits to see what's going on with my transportation benefit application, it's showing online that they're waiting for my 2020 tax form, but further down on the page it said it received the 2020 tax form

WOW, it's a miracle. After having to listen to just one menu where my option was number 3, the phone rang a few times and was answered by a coherent, friendly, helpful, easy to understand human being, who looked up my application and found that although it said they needed me to download a 1040 for 2020, they actually only needed one of the schedules that I neglected to include. The guy said "although I have no idea how you could be expected to know that from looking at the online application!" I was effusively thankful. So I now know what to do to fix it--if every interaction could be like that one, how much time and frustration would it save?
Then I decided that maybe I would be lucky a second time, and I looked at the bank website for the estate department phone number. I couldn't find it, but by googling the bank name and deceased account holder, I came up with an email address for the estate department. So, I sent a detailed email, hopefully that will work.
I think I forgot to mention that I also called the furnace guy yesterday, he told me to call to remind him if he didn't come by last week, and he didn't, so I did.
I also received an order last night that I had placed for some food items and hand soap--the hand soap was in a box, and they put that box and the food items in another box--the hand soap box apparently crushed a jar of salad dressing so that the top popped off and it leaked all over the box. I looked at the Walmart website to see if they had a way to report it, but the only option was "start a return". I guarantee you they would not want me to return this box! So I had to do chat to tell them about it, and the chat person put through a replacement order for the salad dressing right away, I'm sure it'll be alright mailed by itself, without a heavy box alongside it.
So, I HAVE had some good interactions, I guess the bad ones are just so bad that they overshadow everything.

I'm glad you finally had two effective phone calls with competent people, Diane! Every time I read that you were on the phone, I tense up a little on your behalf. I hope it's a trend!

Ha ha, thank you golden, I tense up too, that's why I procrastinate so badly on phone calls. Although I still have to smile when I remember saying "so I'll get statements from now til the end of time?" "Yes, I think so!"

The dog went to the animal hospital, then I sat down for lunch. As I was finishing up lunch the furnace guy called and said he could be here in 20 minutes to give me a new flue pipe. So he came, changed the flue pipe, and didn't charge anything, he said it was part of the air-conditioning work I had done during the summer!
So now I have to wait to hear from the vet. I think I'm going to watch some tv to distract myself.

The vet called and said her lungs sound okay, everything is okay on exam, but she wanted permission to do X-rays. If nothing shows up in the X-rays, she's going to go on the assumption that the rapid breathing is discomfort from joint pain. She has been much slower going up and down stairs lately, but then, so am I! But I have to remember that animals are good at hiding pain, and that if she shows a little pain it's possible she has a lot of pain. So now I'm waiting to hear what the X-rays show.

Clothes hung to dry Trying to clear a path to the front window in the LR Keep uncovering boxes of things that were supposed to have been donated to past rummage sales. At least no decision needs to be made on those items

Ohblondie, do you have have somewhere to store rummage sale things outside of your house? If not, when is the next rummage sale? How nice to find things that are already sorted!
I haven't heard anything about the X-rays, so I am assuming that they didn't show anything significant. Unless they got very busy and didn't have time to call. They said she wouldn't come home until after working hours.
I took a very, very long reading break, I guess I need to try to do something productive.

ohblondie thanks for your kind words. I do love this Crazy sports mom life- love to watch her and love all the good things from being on a team . But it is nuts. we are at another far off town about thirty minutes right now. I was able to work hime today as I had to attend an all day workshop. Of course chaos made me do a rush job during it! Keeping up with dishes and litter. Played two games if fetch and took pup for a walk. Once I am home from game I predict falling asleep on couch!

yes Diane - as I pack a box I can drop it off at church. And I will have to really focus on getting boxes to the car as they get full. Our next rummage sale is in one month. I just dropped a flamingo wire "statue" piece off on a friend's front step. Drop and dash style. I wonder when she will find it and figure out where it came from!
I did manage to clear said path and I brought two plant baskets inside. I found one of those locker wire shelves and I might bring that to work and bring the plants to work.
I found a great deal of evidence of mice and I beyond angry and frustrated with myself. There was a bag of food/pantry items that got set down one of the times when my daughter moved. It got buried and it kept some mice happy and fat! The entire duffle bag was dropped right into the trash. I also found a nice designer bag that I purchased Pre-Covid. I had tossed it into the pile so DH would not see it right away Well, out of sight - out of mind...then covid...then I left for a year......well, the inside lining got ruined. I am hoping I can clean it out real good and sanitize the heck out of it. There was just some damage to the material lining - there was hardly any droppings in it. I was surprised by that. the clothing and kitchen items were not damaged at all - they were high enough in the pile and were in closed boxes - the mice seemed to stay low to the ground.....
I just went to a fundraiser for a young man from our church who is running for political office. I dont have to cook dinner for DH! It was a lovely day but once the sun sets it gets cold. I walked my friends foster daughter across the parking lot to the playground and I pushed her on the swing and she went down the slide. But we both started shivering so my friend and I walked back over to the cars and I headed home.
DS just showered and left so I MUST take advantage of the next 10 mins and quick clean that bathroom! I organized the shelves and they have stayed in decent shape - so it will just be a quick wipe down.
Off I go!

I found a great deal of evidence of mice and I beyond angry and frustrated with myself.
I know the feeling ohblondie, but you're dealing with it now and that's what counts. You're doing so well getting old stuff out. Do you have any vacation time coming to you? I know you probably used it all taking care of your parents this last year, but if you have any left and can take a whole day off you might be able to get a lot done now, you seem to be in the right frame of mind for getting things out if you make a specific plan!
Okay, the X-rays on the dog were totally clear, so the vet is going with joint pain and anxiety! I'm going to test this for one week with CBD oil for her, and a joint supplement, although I don't think the joint supplement will work right away. The vet says she likes the CBD oil instead of anxiety meds--good thing, because I would not agree to anxiety meds. Obviously the best thing for me to do would be to do some kind of training routine with her, and keep her entertained and mentally stimulated during the day--but considering the fact that she doesn't play, I know that I just don't have it in me to do the "ideal" stuff.
I do know that once the weather gets cool we can do more walking, although if she does have joint pain we probably can't do very long walks. Also, I wonder if animals experience the passing of the year in the same way humans do, as in--when a trauma happens and that same time of year rolls around again, we humans often have anxiety or depression before we even realize what anniversary is coming up. The dog increased her panting for a couple of months now, but this rapid breathing is new, and we are just about at the time that my sister started getting really bad physically, which increased my sister's and my own emotional distress. I wonder if that could have something to do with it. I remember that the dog was very nervous when my sister got really bad, and would follow me around and keep lying down at my feet--so there was definitely anxiety there for her at this time last year.
Anyway, I agreed to try the CBD oil for a week, after getting an assurance that it wouldn't just sedate her. We will see how it goes.
I'm very happy that I called the vet, and that they were able to take her today. I'm not happy that she's anxious, but my own anxiety is relieved because I was afraid they would say she had a lung mass, or bad heart disease--or lymphoma, which is what my friend's dog was euthanized for this past summer--I remember her saying that one of the very first symptoms she noticed was excessive panting. So it could have been much worse. The vet did say that if symptoms got worse instead of better we would have to consider additional causes, and that the next thing she would recommend is an EKG looking for heart disease that is not detectable on X-ray or physical exam. But I will try to think positively and hope that she just needs some mellowing out!
Now I am exhausted, I didn't sleep well last night after seeing her breathing, so I'm sure I will be tired enough to fall asleep early tonight.
Diane
