cando, wow! Congratulations on you and hubby doing that much house work! I might be able to catch up with you someday, . Hope your mother is stable and having some of her good days. I have been consistent with shining the sink every day. Also, kitchen table consistently empty and tidy. I improved a lot concerning to the living room table, taking care of emptying it of things that are being brought there. I have caught up with the loads of laundry, finally. It took me weeks of everyday loads to do it, as dogs and hubby are making a lot of mess (due to the nature of his work and the dogs being dogs). Done list Shone the sink. Put a load of laundry. Hang the wet clothes outside to dry. Prepared the meals of the day. Took dogs for a walk. Changed the water and cleaning liquid in the buckets. Wrote down list of things to do for special occasion. Tomorrow morning I am going to do a lot more, will work for a few hours probably, as a friend is coming over after that. Have a nice, productive day! Love, N_C

Tomorrow morning I am going to do a lot more, will work for a few hours probably, as a friend is coming over after that. Have a nice, productive day! Love, N_C Nope, Nael_C Please don't compare! You just wouldn't believe the awful state of my house. I won't even open the door for anyone (except I had to for plumber, structural engineer, and flooring contractor). And, I am not one of those people who have to have everything spic & span and everything beautiful before anyone can come in. Clutter is okay, but not as much and bad as our current condition... My DH and I have not been good. Front bathroom is pretty well clean, nothing in hallway, kitchen doesn't have stuff on the floor-- but the floor is really dirty & the counters weren't good enough until our actions on Saturday. Our couches in the den are cleared off. Also, DS's room is not as cluttered since we had to remove so much from that room & put in other areas of the house. I have stacks of boxes in front of the fireplace in our den from the floor of our bedroom closet & my entire dining room is full of clutter and the entire top of the table and all the chairs have stuff all over them. My home, unfortunately, is a disaster, right now.
You, my friend, are the one who has been amazing!!! Great job walking dogs and meal preparation! And, keeping sink shiny & kitchen table empty! And, awesome job on your dining room table, and especially HUGE -- getting caught up on all that laundry!!! You are doing absolutely fantastic!!!
Here's my update for today:Martin Luther King Day, Jan 16th -- I did have to work, but took off 4 hours during the day due to appointment re: flooring. Met DH at flooring showroom where we had an appointment. We narrowed down & came home with large samples. We are replacing floors in the entire house except the Laundry area, entry hall area & front bathroom. We will have some type of wood looking floor (I forgot the material or what it's called) put in all rooms except the master bedroom & the back bathroom. The master bedroom will have carpeting and the back bathroom will have ceramic tile. We are paying extra for some of this because the insurance only really pays to replace with carpeting. It will be more to get this other type of flooring. And, as I mentioned in previous post, we are electing to replace the kitchen floor & dining room floor Our work is cut out for us!
Fed Dog 2nd feeding. Gave her meds before 3rd feeding Fed Dog 3rd feeding Empty bottle into recycle bag 2 empty boxes put by back door to take to outside can Drank 7 glasses of water! DH put the new registration stickers on my car. We carried in the ceramic tile samples & the carpet samples. The other floor samples are still in DH’s car
Nothing else done tonight.CD

Maybe with both of us posting there, too, it will be helpful. She also has a paperwork/decluttering thread in byways too. I may do that one too. I have so much re: papers Luv, Cd

Thank you cando for the beautiful post and kind response! Glad to hear you're doing great work yourself and that you are going to participate in Papermoon's self care thread! I decluttered the horizontal surfaces of the kitchen. Looks much emptier now! I also arranged with a friend of mine to come help me declutter the living room and redecorate it. I will gather some boxes and put everything that is still usable but in excess, get them into the boxes and put in storage. I shone the sink. Filled the dishwasher and set it to wash the plates and glasses of the day. Cleaned the kitchen table surface. Swish and swiped the bathroom. Changed towels to fresh ones in the bathroom. I have caught up with the loads of laundry and that has taken away a lot of the anxiety I had seeing everything piling up by the day. Rooms I am seeing some difference: Kitchen (surfaces more empty, looks tidier). Living room (looks a bit emptier, but still lots to declutter) Bathroom (looks a lot emptier). My friend is coming some day next week and I will update when the decluttering happens and how it goes. Have a nice day. Hugs, Nael_C

1/19/23 Thursday Felt better this morning-did not feel sickly. Work day was better, today. Completed a project. Was more alert & brighter. Was able to focus better. Dieted successfully Drank 6 glasses of water DH brought the floor samples in. They’ve been in his car since Monday. We had a little tiff tonight. Hate that. They all look great to me! I like all the ones we selected at the store on Monday. Planned my meals for tomorrow. Your home really seems to be coming along. Hoping your friend is able to help decluttering. That’s so nice! Cd

1/20/23 Friday While brushing teeth this morning, received disturbing text from owner of care home that my Mom is in. Suddenly she has no doctor. Her doctor basically suddenly quit & left the country. In fact, the other residents the same. Now, we have to find another doctor & another home health group. A couple other residents have to find new hospice group. She found out yesterday afternoon but thought it was a joke. Grrr.
Again, feel well today! I’m starting to think what I eat & how much has to do with headaches, too. And, of course, gastric issues.
Today, we gave our flooring decisions to contractor. Now, we are waiting for price quote.
DH was down today. He met me at my work, surprised me. He waited in his car for me to leave, then went to Starbucks.
I still think I did well with food, but did have more than I’d planned. He really needed to relax some & likes Starbucks a lot.
I got off work earlier today & the plan was to go straight home & get to work on stuff.
Best laid plans………
Hope you’re doing well. Cd

Hi cando! How are you? Sorry about the news on your mom's doctor leaving, what a bumper, and now you need to have other arrangements made for her! Feeling well, already started going to the gym, which is another one of my goals for this year, to be persistent in adding exercise as a major self care area in my life. Now, the house is looking better, but still a ton more to do. The differences are mostly in the kitchen, empty sink and table, emptiER (but not completely decluttered yet) food preparation areas. But mostly, what is now in open view in our kitchen are appliances. No "deep" decluttering yet, as in drawers and cupboards. The bathroom itself is looking much better too. Things to declutter remain the cleaning supplies and the bathroom towels. The cloth piles in the bedroom remain the same, I just covered them up with a big sheet, but this huge problem is there all the same. We are both making a difference, DH also is more involved in the housekeeping, so I am hopeful we can make it to decluttering and maintenance some time soon. Sending hugs, N_C

Hi Nael_C I'm in a rush! Nael_C Sorry had to rush off... updating. I did a lot yesterday! So this is a long wordy post... Yesterday, 1/21/23 Meds to DogFed DogLaundry load #1 into washerMoved to dryerHung that loadCalled flooring contractorSigned the quote, scanned it & emailed it back. Yay! It's gonna happen!Went with DH to pick up rental car that the dealership is providing since last weekend the Ford Escape that we just got back after 4 months (replaced transmission-factory defective) we had to have towed due to transmission issue. And, it turns out they have to replace this one, too!!!! This is geting ridiculous -- it's been in for repair longer than we've had it. They are still having problem with supply of parts, etc since Covid began................. so who knows how long they will have it, again. We only had it back for 2 weeks -- or was it less than that?! So much to do! Don't know what to do first!Turned out to be a very rough depressing sad day for me. At first, I was so very excited and motivated. But ended up just wanting to cry.... had to do with DH, and our daughter. Put Laundry Load #2 in washerEmptied kitchen trash & replaced bagTook bag of trash to outside canTossed plastic bowl & 2 lids1 paper into "to be shred" bag4 papers into recycle bag Moved Laundry Load #2 to dryerUnpacked big box that was Entry Hall -- it was shipment from Petsmart of dog food, but box was badly damaged. It's been sitting there for several days. So, finally got brave enough to open it. I had thought DH would do it, but I'm guessing he was afraid of the contents being torn and loose food in the box or the food all powdery, too. All that angst about opening the box & damaged goods -- well, all is fine!!! If anything this food is less powdery than usual. Emptied the bags into our dog food containers.Tossed 3 empty bags of dog foodBroke down the big box & put it & the packaging by the back door to go to the outside recycle can Drank 7 1/2 glasses of waterFolded/hung Laundry Load #2Put away that loadPut Laundry Load #3 in washerRemoved medium box from Dining RoomOpened contentsTossed 3 plastic wrappingsBroke down the Box & put by back door to take to outside recycle boxForgot to mention that I took my BP this morning: 136/78 P 76Took 2 sudafed this morningMoved Laundry Load #3 to dryer & hung the hang-dry thingsWe will be getting rid of the furniture in daughter's old room & removing all her old stuff. Very angry with H (not dear, anymore...) due to him getting angry & not wanting to even heaerher name. This is something very difficult for me to deal with. Then, he went & voiced what I had tried to talk with him about to DS, I wasn't sure that I wanted to do that but he just took it upon himself to speak with him andhe was too angry to talk to me about it. Complicated! I am filled with rage and also have been crying...Took bp 150/82 P 75 Put Laundry Load #4 in washerMoved load to dryerRemoved & hung loadPut Laundry Load #5 in washerMoved to dryerRemoved & hung loadAnother plastic wrapping into trash
Dieted successfully 8,000 steps 1/22/23 Sun Tadas: Tossed sweater that I had hanging on a doorknob in our bedroom for a few years!!! I loved that sweater & all it needed was a couple buttons. So, I washed it yesterday (hand wash cycle, but it ended up with holes in it, anyway). Fed dog Meds to dog Put Laundry Load #1 in washer Moved it to dryer Hung that load Our loaner vehicle has a flat tire this morning. Got stuff to take to Mom DH & I Visited my Mom -- she was not having a good day, cognitively. In fact, DH & I both said that we haven't seen her like that in quite a while. I think it's been at least a month or two. But, that is kinda the nature of Alzheimers. Again, it's like her mind is a shattered mirror... thoughts, memories, etc. just are so random and coming in & out. Today, she said to me that she only gets 1 phone call a day... she thinks she is in jail and that she did something wrong... I'm pretty sure. She used to say to the caregivers -- "I'm so sorry, what did I do wrong..." She would say that when they changed her and/or cleaned her. It is just heart wrenching... (We know she used to say that from the cameras we have in her room). It's just so sad... I was surprised to see that I left a pair of pants that I meant to bring to her. So, I'll have to drop them off another time. So, I dropped off 2 1/2 pants sets that I've had hanging around that I bought for her about a month ago. Went to Aldi's grocery store - they didn't have the main items I wanted, but I bought some groceries that we needed like: onions We ate lunch out at a Mexican restaurant -- and I did ok with my diet... not great, but better than usual. I could not make myself order soup this time. Just couldn't handle it. How's that for motivation -- NOT motivated enough, obviously. I still think that I'll be under my calories goal or at least close to it. Put away all groceries. Wasn't feeling well, so rested a while on the couch. NO TV! Called acquaintance re: Dr. issue at the Group Care Home where DMom is at. Her Mom is the newest one there. Only been there a couple months. She may yank her out of there. She lives 40 minutes away & can't visit every day because of the distance & wants her closer to her. So, this is just another reason. Fed Dog Drank 7 glasses of water Screwed up with Diet tonight. Put Laundry Load in washer Moved it to dryer Emptied kitchen trash & replaced bag Emptied front bathroom trash & replaced bags Tossed: 3 plastic wrappings/packagings, 1 paper, 1 shipping label. Put 3 boxes by back door to be recycled Put 5 pairs of Mom's pants in a bag by front door to donate. Her caregiver returned them to me stating they don't fit her anymore. Put 4 shirts into a box & put it by the front door to donate. These were also returned by the caregiver. (These clothes that were given back to me by the caregiver were so difficult for me. Brought some tears as they were some of Mom's clothes that she used to wear before the Alzheimers became so advanced. I picture her still wearing these clothes--black jeans & the colorful button down shirts, and one of her favorite black tops. I can't believe that I won't see her wearing these anymore. The shirts, I'm told, are difficult for the caregivers to put her arms thru the sleeves. She's so delicate...) I also added 2 pairs of my Dad's pants to the box to donate. 2 bags of trash to outside can & scooted out for pick up Tossed 3 reused grocery bags 3 bags of recyclable bottles to outside can . CD

Hello partner! Wow, you are doing loads and loads of things! Hope you have some me time when you need it! I started going to the gym, so I have been doing less at home. Maintaining kitchen, hallway, bathroom. Living room table, not so much, got to be more strict with what I bring there. Put on another load of laundry. Hang outside to dry. Filled the dishwasher, set to wash, then put everything into place. Cleaned the aquarium. Prepared us dinner and then cleaned the kitchen table and put everything in place. Tired, my body is not used to exercise, but it is something very important to incorporate into my everyday life.

I’m so soo happy you’re going to the gym! That’s wonderful! And healthy foods, too Yay, you! Cleaning an aquarium sounds like a big job, to me. Good going!
Yesterday, I didn’t feel well most of the day. During late lunch break, took half down payment for the floor replacements to the flooring showroom. Whew! We’re getting somewhere now! It’s scheduled & work should begin on Feb 13th. Exciting but frightening due to the sheer amount we need to move out/box up/go thru.
Had poor phone call re: nurse/owner of group care home where my Mom is. Made me want to yank my Mom out of there. She told me I was giving her a headache because I was asking her the doctors first name. One she claimed a couple of the other residents are using & those at another one of her homes. She said that to me twice! Even though she was pushing me to switch to this Dr that she had given me only the last name. I wanted to research a little bit by his name and that was my response. Then she told me she didn’t know his name but they’re real good & she has residents been using him since 2018. Didn’t make since to me & she finally told me she doesn’t know the Dr’s name cause only the PAs come out.
She did call me back about an hour later & apologized cause she’d been very stressed out cause the dt’s office already turned down 2 other residents due to their Medicare supplement insurance. Said they wouldn’t bill their insurance. My Moms was accepted & found out it’s because Mom is on “Traditional” Medicare. Whew! Yeah, I chose to keep her on traditional Medicare & not switch her to the newer Advantage plan a couple years ago. I told my oldest Dr.Bro not to switch our parents to Advantage cause I researched it enough to know that it would/could become problematic.
After work, went to Sam’s Club for just a few things, but then DH added a few things the last minute & then I had a problem with their Scan & Go App. Finally got it working & out of there but my earlier headache came back.
Then while loading stuff in my car, got very frightened when a homeless person (I guess) came up from behind me somewhere & asked me for money. I can’t believe that I didn’t notice him sooner. I think it was because I was keeping an eye out on the other one that was by the Exit doors of the store. But still, I’m just not as alert as I used to be.
Plus before that, I opened the front passenger car of the wrong car to put my purse in. Someone was in the drivers seat. I apologized but was so embarrassed. I couldn’t tell if it alarmed the driver or not. I quickly apologized & said wrong car! It was the same color as mine & right next to my car. Still….
Went home but headache was too bad to fill out the medical forms for my Mom. I did print them out.
DH & I put away all the groceries & DH had cooked while I was at Sam’s Club.

1/24/23 Tuesday Sent email to new Dr’s office re: Mom Met DH for lunch at Sonny Bryan’s BBQ. During lunch, made an appointment with a different new Dr for myself. I’m way past due & about out of meds. Need refill. My Dr retired a year ago. I’ve dragged my feet cause I don’t want to go at this weight & level of fat & poor fitness. For an Ex-athlete , I’m a mess. I am so dreading this…
Called & spoke with someone from Moms new Dr office re: forms question.

Hi cando! Thank you for your comments! The gym is helping in more than one way, first of all it changed my sleep patterns, I sleep more and deeper! Didn't know you are an ex-athlete, been one myself! Swimmer actually, specialized in backstroke. Yep, we should known better, but psychology is key and if we don't fix the psychology first, I speak for myself, I cannot see much difference in other areas. The reason I started going to the gym was that I knew it would push me in the right direction. Coaches are very kind and encouraging too, which helps tremendously! One needs people that are not judgemental, but they want to help in a neutral and supportive way/environment. Second, it changed the way I think about food. Not as a comfort, not as an emotional support, but as energy. There is sure to be backslides but when I go to the gym, guilt is moderated, cannot explain it best. When food and guilt are combined, not a good combo, I tell ya! Shone the sink. Prepared us dinner. Emptied the dishwasher. Didn't put on another load of laundry, the weather is rainy. Doggie made a mess in the living room, and some of the couch covers have to be washed now, weather has to change first, they are big to hang anywhere else than outside. Cleaned the kitchen table. Cleaned the top of the stove. Took garbage out of the baskets, and put new waste bags in them. Took son to run multiple errands. Still not finished. Worked for a few hours on one project. The weather is bad, very chilly, seems like it is going to snow soon! Good morning! Have a nice and productive day!

Nael_C That was such an excellent post! So happy gym, etc are working out. Sounds like your husband is very supportive. That’s great! And happy it’s helped your sleep. Keep it up! So neat! Both of us having been athletes. My sport was racquetball. I miss it a lot & never in a million years would have believed the way I am now. My coach & teammates used to try to get me to eat more cause they were always concerned that I wasn’t eating enough. Yesterday was a rough day for me. Got up at 6:30am Completed the first batch of forms for Mom’s new medical group. Scanned them Emailed them. Was a bit late to work. 9:07am Left work 45 minutes later to go to Moms group home & meet the PA. I liked her. I don’t usually go when Mom has a medical visit, but I wanted to be there the first visit. My DH surprised me & actually got there before me. I didn’t think he was gonna be there. I was glad because we had kind of an urgent matter come up at work right when I had planned to walk - right after my alarm went off. Had to get it to a situation that my boss could handle it. Medical situation is not the way I really want for Mom, medicine is being practiced differently these days & it’s just the way things are nowadays. DH & I had lunch together & I admit to not even trying to be healthier. It was very stressful morning for me & it was late. I must do better in these situations. Went back to work. DH did the dishes! Wow! He was still working tho when I got home about 6:45 or 7pm. (He mostly works from home.) Put Laundry Load in washer Moved load to dryer & hung the hang dry things Cd I was too tired to do anything else. Hope to do better tomorrow. 😊

1/27/23 Friday Deleted 100 emails. Drove to a courthouse that was almost an hour away to make sure I know where to go early Monday morning. That took a chunk out of my work day at the office but it all was for work. Drank 6 glasses of water today & the last few days. Diet has been bad the last few days, so was good today. Nothing done in the house tonight Bought a wall calendar after going to 4 stores, today. I plan to use stickers as motivated by papermoon. Went to bed early last night about 11pm. Slept well Cd
