Keriamon, fantastic about getting the bookcaseS! And YES, I do exactly what you described--get stuck on some kind specific task that has to be done some particular way and just stall, as you said. I am learning to get past that trick, but sometimes I need a kick over the line!
Rooting for you to get the job that will allow the other aspects of your plan to progress!
I have spent the day running around town with various activities. Home now, but I still have to eat and do some computer work before I can tackle any household things. I will post an update if I make any progress!

I got all our medieval books on the new bookcase last night (that includes cataloging them). I wore myself out carting them around the house; I cataloged and moved about 100!
I'm rooting for your progress today!

Keriamon, It sounds like you are on a roll with your books! Congrats!
Morningglory, keep working step by step! Good job!
My MIL is due Jun 30th, so I still have a couple of weeks. My cleaners are coming this Wed. so I will be scrambling to pick up the floors tomorrow! I have started to sort through some of the desk pile, throwing away the obvious receipts, newspaper ads and envelopes but I have to try to get myself to just sit and do it! Procrastination is my middle name! : )

Yes, keriamon, it does sound like you are chugging right along!
Packy, your d-day is closer than mine! I don't envy you that! But I do envy you your cleaners!
I am just posting to let you all know I am still here, but sadly I cannot yet post more progress. With the kids all home there are just a million activities. I think I am going to have to shut down and just get them some videos and indoor activities for a few days so I can focus! AGH!

If you want to get the kids out from underfoot, offer to let them go outside and play, or stay inside and help you clean. They will either cease to be part of the problem or become part of the solution!
When I was a kid, our babysitter wouldn't even let us in the house after lunch, unless it was to take a nap; we had to go out and play. We kept ourselves occupied for hours while she was able to quietly read her bible.

Morning glory: It sounds like you are making progress. Congratulations! Packy: if the desk is the only problem, get yourself a nice cardboard box and the day before MIL arrives shove everything in it. The desk will look all cleaned off and you can put the box in a closet until she leaves.

Gottaproblem, thanks for the encouragement!
Today is the day I am going to try the video, stay-at-home method. It looks rainy out, anyway, so maybe they won't mind hiberating a little while I get some work done.
Yesterday we had our Father's Day celebration for my husband, because he will be traveling on Sunday. It was a nice time -- Greek food and gifts that he actually specifically wanted. But the shopping, wrapping, organizing, etc., took some time out of the day.
Also, at the last minute found out it was the day for a "lunch and learn" program that the older kids and I like to go to. Hey, ya gotta eat lunch, anyway! But, as always, it ran about an hour late. Lots of rushing around afterwards.
My mother is coming next Tuesday. I am not very worried about her reaction to the place, because she is very accepting of things like that, but of course I do want it to be at least clean and comfortable for her (even if not perfectly organized and painted and repaired). So I have a lot of work to accomplish before then, clearing the living room, washing the kitchen floor, and so forth. It's all good--I need to get those things done, anyway.
Love to all, Morning Glory

Oh Morningglory, I do understand about the kids! My 5 and 3 yr olds are out of preschool now and they do tear up the house! We do not have a good yard to send them out to play in like Keriamon suggested but I definately use the tv and videos when needed.
My cleaners came yesterday so the house is "clean" which is always wonderful. It only takes my little ones minutes to start pulling everything out though, which tends to get on my nerves and then I lose it sometimes. Yesterday we had a chat and I printed out charts for them. Simple things like keeping their rooms picked up. We'll see how that goes.
My sister-in-law is on her way to our house prior to my MIL's visit. She will be here by Sunday I think. She is not a neat person, so I am not worried about what she will think. I just always really want to try to keep up with the every day stuff after the cleaners come. I never seem to be able to do that though. UGH!
Gottaproblem, yes I have done that many, many times! It is a great quick solution to the problem. In fact I have a couple of those bags from before sitting here near my desk upstairs. : )
Best of luck to you today Morning Glory!

Thanks, Packy!
We have the same situation with not having a suitable place to send the kids out to play for hours. In fact, if I do send them into our little urban-size yard, they end up destroying things out there (leaving shoes, bikes, dishes, towels, food wrappers lying around, stacking up deck furniture to play fort or house, dragging pieces of lumber and other odds and ends out of place!).
So right now, they are settled with their stack of videos, and two laptops to play video games on. I am in my work clothes finally this week (YAY!) and about to make lunch and begin tackling the stacks in the living room!
Earlier today I did manage to hang up about 2 baskets of clothing and the kids loaded the dishes and cleaned up the dining room floor and table. Still, that is all daily maintenance stuff and I haven't yet made a dent in the real desqualoring!
Hopefully I will have good things to report later today!

Reporting little steps in progress to keep myself motivated: Made lunch and unloaded/reloaded the dishwasher. Now to tackle the rest of the clean laundry.
(Listening to Sinclair Lewis' "Babbitt" on mp3 while I work! Kids are watching BBC production of "Anne of Avonlea".)

Have put away another 2-3 baskets of clothing. Made dinner and another load of dishes. Swept up major portion of garbage on kitchen floor (couldn't reach the places under the stacks of boxes, shoes, coats, and so forth!).
Also got the weekly editing/website management work done today. In spite of unwanted comments from someone who thinks she knows my job better than I do! (It's good that I can let out my annoyance here!)
Continuing...

Just want to check in for the day. I did get some more stuff hung up (but more is being washed, of course!). Picked up some more trash. Did more dishes. Obviously, I am not making the real dent I want to, though. It is going to have to happen on Sunday (tomorrow is my day off). I hope to have good things to report Sunday night. Thanks for the ongoing encouragement!

Obviously I am in stall mode concerning the progress I need to make. There are very legitimate reasons why (yesterday drove husband to airport, went grocery shopping, attending two weekly classes, made lunch, shopped for birthday present that my child had to take to a party immediately afterward, attended the party for 2 hours, did two loads of laundry and probably 2 loads of dishes, worked on some paid internet work). But, man, NOTHING is getting done to improve the state of the living room, kitchen, hallway, or dining room! The most I can say is that I picked up a few handfuls of trash from the floor. Wow.
Here I am at home with only 2 of the six kids this morning (other 4 off to various camps). The two biggest boys, being teenagers, like to sleep late--so I have quiet and the house to myself. Honestly, I need to take a nap in order to have energy for desqualoring. But napping time means time I am not working! Still...I think it may be the best use of an hour right now, then I can get moving with everything else, hopefully.
Keep me in mind, please!

Hi Morningglory,
I can't imagine the amount of laundry you must have with six kids! That alone can keep you busy 24 hrs a day. You have to remember that keeping up with daily stuff is work too, so you are getting things done. I agree that desqualoring definately takes the energy right out of you, mentally and physically. You are doing a great job!
I am in a somewhat stall mode as well. My SIL arrived Sat. Then I realized that she would be here right up to the moment my MIL gets here. So, in order to work on the house stuff, she will have to keep herself busy. She brought her dog with her, who has already peed in my house 8 times! She is bi-polar and off meds at the moment... need I say more? Anyway, I am doing my best. I have just set up my kids with a painting project and have decided to work on throwing old magazines out. I usually have to look through them first but I think I have the strength in my today to just throw them out.
