opps Forgot-
AQUIRED a lot of quality cat food thanks to many coupons on hand..in fact, too many!! even after carefully, slowly handing them over to the clerk, he missed on for $3.00 off..dang, get home, look at receipt, then 2 calls and one manager's confirmation later I can get the refund.
Aquired a big bag of tiny avocados..and the surprise was the TEENY pit, so lot more "guacamole potential" with a pit like a jelly bean vs the big rock pit I usually find.

A brand new, beautiful Goodwill store opened last September just a couple of miles from here. Today I went into it for the very first time, so I think I did pretty good with resisting it. Bought two 3-ring binders for 99 cents each and a pkg of tabbed dividers for $0.49 (half price for Red tags today.). Total, $2.47 for items I truly need.
I have been avoiding places like GW lately, since I am seriously trying to Declutter.

peaeandfreedom: A brand new, beautiful Goodwill store opened <<< yes, something about it not smelling like old socks and sweat still in clothes makes a difference to how poor you feel shopping there. if it is too run down it is like "how little am I willing to accept for myself to dig thru junk here?"
Some places that have decent wood furniture, little tables, lamps,, etc feels 'better' than just all plastic crappy kids toys, stuffed animals and just racks of clothing...
several years ago financially struggling friend with 4 very small kids always shopped at a nice Goodwill, and they told the kids for years it was "Macy's" .I swear it is true, and the kids innocently/honestly could say "mom got me this sweater "or "this jacket at Macy's". Clever mom...for a while. but it kept them from comments by judgmental people.

I've purchased some new clothes this week since suddenly I don't find it necessary to hide in old worn out men's clothes.

I have been taking my kitten outside in the evering. I have had to hold him. I decided that I wanted a small cage to put the cat n for about an hour in the evening. I saw a rummage today, went around the block and got a small cage for the half price of a new cage. The cage looks brand new. I felt it was a neccity.

Went shopping with a lady friend yesterday and came home with two sacks full of clothes. H2H, I bought one pair of pants and a few tops last year for fall since I chair some meetings each month, but other than that, I haven't bought dressier clothes in years. Even though I'm an overweight grandma, I feel pretty again (I know this is crazy and I know I'm NOT pretty) and want to look nicer for GF, especially when we go out.
I also bought a comfy cushion for my glider. It's hard to sit out on the porch and hold hands when your bottom is being flattened by the slats in the seat.

Ima, you have an inner beauty that just shines out from the inside. I can see it from here, so can only imagine what it must be like for those who know you in person!

imamess: Even though I'm an overweight grandma, < aha! now, see YOU are assigning that 'social conventional identity' on yourself...you really are simply a lady who may be falling in love.. age, hair color, inches on hips, number of dresses, or assorted offspring of offspring do not matter.
I hope you feel butterflies for a many years to come with Mr. Wonderful.

I went and bought the big Fiskar billhook $41. after senior discount (which just pays for our high CA sales tax) .. after seeing the short video on it, and it specifically is good for dragging thru low level vines and leaves. It does not hack thick ivy vine, or saw very fast..so it is good for one task as far as I can tell. Using loppers and clippers is best for thick vines.
the annoying thing is the snap & velcro canvas carry case does not snap at the latch, the strap will not reach, it SHOULD have been designed to be 1/2 inch too LONG, no too short....so will let arbor girl test it, and return it for one that has everything working. No one seems to QC that the tool fits the case...each once should be checked. My Japanese whisper saw may be able to do the same thing..wil try both in the same area.

... but NEVER think to offer the discount? A view from the other side of the counter... At my small job we also offer a senior discount. I have been scolded for OFFERING the discount. (some people can take offense at even being THOUGHT of, however briefly, as "senior"). I have been scolded for NOT offering the discount. (this customer, like you, assumed that I would assume she was a senior.) I have tried to be funny about it..."And do you self-identify as a senior person?" which has brought some smiles... I have tried to be bland..."Do you qualify for any discounts today?" Mostly, I expect people to know that there are such things as senior discounts, and ask for them. To go further, there is a part of me that has often wondered why we even have such things as senior discounts..is it a sort of congratulations for living however long? Is it about assuming that people over the age of whatever-it-is are poor and need a couple of dollars off? To my mind, it's an altogether strange phenomenon. How about "single" discount? Or "widow" discount? Or "people-with-children-working-three-jobs" discount? Or "chain-fast-food-restaurant-employee" discount?

Angela I like your thought process about the young workers on a budget needing a boost.
I made my first trip into a thrift shop in several years. Came out with 2 new tops including a open knit top I may never wear because of my own insecurities.

Accompanied a friend to a thrift shop. She bought nothing, I got a nice summer handbag I needed as my old one is looking tired. I also bought myself a tin box of tea and Doreeen Virue's Magical unicorns cards.
