WTG, notanotherdecade - on finishing up those forms! depending on the job (formal or informal) they are probably OK with "it didn't work out" or "we had different approaches and i wanted to show the job the care i thought it deserved" or some other such thing. i hope you think of dozens of reasons why you will be a great employee - especially if it is a job you think you could really like. sending you good thoughts for a relaxing interview. and to washing up as a reward - ha ha, there is always something worse! i finished hanging up clothes from last week's challenge but then i messed it all up again - but i am noticing sooner when slobification happens, and i hang up 3 or 4 things whenever i catch them - which is an improvement over 20-something. the shoes are still all over the place. will round those up and put away now. DONE trying to think of the challenge for this week, since my week starts on Monday.

hang a wire rack with slide-out "drawers" where i keep my rags, sponges, etc - under sink. this has sat under the sink since i moved to this apt next to my old one - in 2012
ETA: I DID IT! oh happy dance! the process, including finding screwdrivers and tools, eyeballing and marking the places to drill, drilling holes (with a yankee hand pump drill) and hanging and putting stuff away in it, took about 1/2 hour - after 5 years of procrastination! 10 dancing bananas!

BACK AGAIN to this thread! I've created a new ticker for myself to do better with it in 2018, and in fact, I'm going to start NOW instead of waiting til the magic date of January 1st, because I'm trying to get rid of the perfectionism (start at the beginning of a month, do the goal perfectly, the first time you mess up you've ruined it forever so you might as well give up....).
So, I made my ticker for 54 weeks instead of 52 because there are 2 weeks left in 2017.
I would like to do this spontaneously--in other words, instead of looking around at the beginning of the week for a particular item to count for the week, I'd like to just be doing something around the apartment and notice something that needs doing, and realizing that I've been procrastinating on it. Then just doing it! And reporting that I did it. Maybe this way it will become more second nature to me to notice things that I've been putting off and jumping right on them instead of adding them to a list to do later.

Hi Jannie! Isn't it funny how so many of us here procrastinate on so many things that it won't be a problem finding something every week that we've put off doing? Diane

i forgot about this thread; thank you for bumping it, dtesposito! i also like your new approach; just reading about it, it seems it would bring up less resistance for a procrastinator like me! any week's successes will be better than doing no weeks at all. love your ticker idea too! so i'll start with this week and since i procrastinate EVERYTHING i am sure i will find things that count.

Hi CC!
Yes, I too have so many things I put off til later, and I don't know why, because so many of them end up being quick and easy. And for those that aren't quick and easy, BABY STEPS count!

I did my item for this week. I have a dresser near the entry door to my apartment, and one of the drawers holds my tote bags and reusable bags for shopping. The last several weeks I've had to force the bags into the drawer because it was so full, it was really annoying. So today, as I was trying to stuff a couple more bags in there, I thought I should just clean the drawer out. I emptied the entire drawer, got rid of some bags that were torn or were made of plastic instead of cloth, put a few bags that I want to keep but don't use regularly in the entryway closet, and packed the rest of the bags neatly in the drawer. It should be much easier to use now.

Last week's item was going on to the DoNotCall list and adding my cell phone number. I thought the numbers expired after a while and I might have to add my home phone number back in, but they said numbers do not expire, and they let me check to make sure my number was still on.

Wow, 3 weeks have passed since I posted here--I don't know how that happens! I was thrown off track on all my challenges during the last couple of weeks because my BIL died and my sister then had an accident, but I did manage to do items on 2 out of 3 of the weeks, so I just skipped one. Last week I tried repairing one of my old wooden office chairs, using glue and toothpicks to steady the creaky legs. It worked less well than it has in the past, partly because when I went to get the wood glue the cap was closed but not tightly, so the glue was rubbery and dried out. So I'll need to get more glue and try again, but I think I gave it several more weeks by my partial repair.
The other item I did was sewing a new strap on a new tote bag to use as my dog walk bag, that was something that was on my to do list for months.

So I temporarily gave up on this challenge since I had gotten so far behind, and then I realized that I can still continue it--instead of doing an item per week, I will do 52 (plus 2 since I started early) total items for the year. There are certainly enough things I'm procrastinating on!
So my goal is to do 50 more things, large or small, by the end of the year, that I've been procrastinating on for at least a week.
